The Many Ways to Spend a Rainy Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Delaware chapter.

1. Catch up on your reading

Having an excuse to sit on your couch, or stay in bed, with a good book, some coffee and your fuzziest pair of sucks is a perfect way to relieve stress. Finally finish the book that’s been ignored on your bedside table and allow yourself to have a cozy day indoors.

2. Get some Z’s

Whether it’s classwork, parties, or a night of Netflix, none of us ever seem to have enough sleep. When it’s a grey, stormy day outside and you’ve got no place to be use that time to sleep a couple more hours! Your body will thank you for it and there’s no fear of missing out on any outdoor festivities.

3. Improve your baking skills

Never can find the time to bake some cookies or want to finally use that recipe you saved to your Pinterest board? Since you probably won’t be leaving the house anyway, make good use of your time and whip up something delicious!

4. Put on some rain boots and take a stroll

If it’s only a light rain and it’s not too cold, enjoy the rainy weather! Rather than stay inside all day, though that’s always a good option too, you can grab a friend and splash around in the puddles. Ditch the umbrella even, and embrace the rain. At the very least, you can get a good photo for your Insta out of it.

5. Sit and listen

Maybe splashing around is a bit much for you. In that case, sit by your window or outside, preferably somewhere you can stay dry, to listen to the rain as it falls. It might sound boring, but add a cup of tea or hot chocolate to the mix and you’ll forget all the little stressors you’ve been worrying about.

6. Netflix all day

When you don’t want to leave the house and the cloudy day outside creates perfect movie lighting, binge watching Master of None on Netflix might just be the best idea ever. There’s no feeling guilty about staying inside in front of a screen all day, even if that was already your plan for the day rain or shine.

7. Don’t let it get you down!

Everyone has experienced those rainy day blues, but look at a rainy day as an opportunity to just be lazy or maybe spend the day indoors working on all those papers due next week. It’ll make the days you wake up to the sound of raindrops on the roof once you look forward to instead of dread!
