Ah, foundation. We go way back. Most of us remember covering our faces with Pan Stik for the local teen disco or slathering on the Dream Matte Mousse like there was no tomorrow – it only feels like yesterday!

Nowadays, it’s safe to say we have a whole lot more options to suit our various foundation needs (Thank God!) Pharmacies are filled to the brim with long lasting, matte, dewy, full coverage, everything-you-could-ever-want-in-one foundations. While this is a great thing, it can be hard to know which foundation is right for you, and, as students, we really need a foundation that’s going to do the job and get us our money’s worth.

I’ve done all the hard work for you, pals, and narrowed down the best foundations to suit various skin types, all of which are available in Boots! Happy shopping xo

  • Dry Skin: ‘Benefit Hello Flawless Liquid Foundation’. €36.00 This foundation is a little on the pricey side, but if you’re looking for a foundation that won’t irritate your dry skin but will still leave you looking flawless and luminous, this is your gal. It’s oil free so it won’t leave you looking shiny, has light to medium buildable coverage and has SPF 25. What’s not to love?

  • Acne- Prone Skin: La Roche-Posay Toleriane Teint: €18.00 This foundation is made by the French skincare experts, La Roche-Posay. This is a foundation I used for most of my acne-infested teenage years. It never once irritated my super sensitive acne-prone skin and gave me flawless coverage all day. The price is brill as a tiny bit goes such a long way, too! If you’re struggling with any sort of skin issue, I would highly recommend this.

  • Light Coverage: Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector. €13.49 If you’re one of the lucky ones blessed with picture perfect skin, or even if you just don’t like the look and feel of heavy foundations, this is the one for you. This BB cream moisturises, blurs pores and imperfections, and mattifies so it won’t leave you with any shine, just a healthy, hydrated glow.  Plus at that price, it’s hard to compete with.

(Student-friendly tip: f you don’t want to buy a light coverage foundation, mix a little moisturiser in with your current foundation – this will give you a gorgeous light coverage glow!)

  • The Busy Gal’s Best Friend: Smashbox Studio Skin €36.00. Where do I start with this bad boy. This foundation is another one that’s a little pricey, but it is a POWERHOUSE. If you’re a busy gal who doesn’t have time to touch up their foundation all day, or even if you’re someone who wears makeup to the gym, you need this in your life. It’s oil-free as well as being water, sweat, humidity and transfer resistant. It is also buildable medium to full coverage which means it will do you for daytime and evening looks, making it perfect as a night-out foundation, too! Honestly, stop reading right now and invest.

So that’s it! The top foundations every student needs to know about. Remember, a good foundation is like a friend – it will stand by you through thick and thin, never let you look bad in photos, and never, ever clog your pores.
