Tied and Tested – Female Masturbation Exists Too?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DCU chapter.

‘Wait a second. You mean to say that women have a clitoris, AND THEY MASTURBATE?’  – made up sarcastic quote.

Yes, we do masturbate. Maybe that’s why I found it so easy to explain how to stimulate a clitoris to you lovely readers in the first issue of Tied and Tested.

We watch porn occasionally too, although I have found with my female peers that it’s still a little more taboo, or there’s still a slight stigma surrounding women discussing sexuality and admitting that they unapologetically please themselves.

My male friends have questioned whether or not I masturbate on several occasions, and are always a little taken aback when I tell them I do. I’ll let you in a little secret, boys, we all do. That’s why we know exactly what we like done to us in the bedroom. Nobody will be able to make me orgasm more than myself, and believe me that’s t(r)ied and tested.

We also watch porn, and masturbate-to the porn. I know right, someone call Victoria and tell her that HerCampus are leaking all her secrets. We need sexual pleasure too, and if you’re single, sometimes all you have is yourself to do it.

Talking to my female friends, we find ourselves masturbating much more frequently when it’s around exam season, or at the end of a particularly anxious or stressful day. According to a study done by Bustle, women masturbate 8 times a month on average.

We’re just trying to keep it real and transparent with all you readers. Here at Tied and Tested, we hope that those of you who maybe are a little self conscious about their body, or think they’re weird for masturbating too much (or not at all), or think that they don’t ever seem to be fully satisfied with the sex they’re having, are not alone.

This is why we post anonymously, so we can be completely honest and open about these stigmatized issues, on a platform that can be read by hundreds of people who are thinking about these situations or having the same experiences.

Women should love their body and want to masturbate and please themselves, as would any man. There is no need, in 2018, to feel as if it’s worse for us to watch porn than it is for a man, and we should be able to openly discuss healthy masturbation with each other without feeling shame or guilt.

Just a friendly reminder that you have to love yourself before anyone else can do it for you. The same goes for masturbation.
