Songs that Remind Me of Great Moments

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DCU chapter.

Music has this magical ability to affect all of us in a way that’s hard to describe. One thing I know for sure, is that the perfect song has the ability to help you time travel back to a moment in your life when you felt absolutely in love with that special person, absolutely in love with life or just completely and utterly at ease with everything going on in that time. These five songs I’m sharing with you are ones that take me back to the best moments in my life.

1.  Toothpaste Kisses – The Maccabees

”Lay with me, I’ll lay with you, we’ll do the things that lovers do”

This song, for me perfectly captures the feeling of the first time you fall in love with someone. The name ‘Toothpaste Kisses’ almost giving me the impression of a minty fresh love, new and unknown – But consuming and sweet all the same.

2. We are Golden – Mika

”We are not what you think we are, we are golden, we are golden”

This song reminds me of the times when I succeeded, despite being told I wouldn’t be able to do something and I proved people wrong. There is no better feeling than knowing you were good enough and that things worked out because you worked hard enough for it.

3. Hell is Round the Corner – Tricky.

”Let me take you down the corridors of my life”

The lyrics of this song mean very little to me, it’s the atmosphere that takes me back. The almost otherworldly mood of this song brings me back to when I started going to house parties. I’d be floating from room to room at 2am, looking around at people’s faces enjoying themselves. Feeling completely drunk, but on top of the world regardless and that was always one of the best feelings.

4. Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) – Green Day.

”It’s something unpredictable, but in the end, is right, I hope you had the time of your life.”

This song, for me is about the moment I stopped being sad about the past and started embracing it.  I sometimes get sad about things in my life changing and forget to be happy about how it’s usually for the better. This song reminds me of the moments I let go of sadness about the past and allow myself to feel good about the present.

5. The Best Day – Taylor Swift.

”Look now, the sky is gold, I hug your legs and fall asleep on the way home”

This song reminds me of all the times I spent with my family as a child. Going on holiday for a family wedding, going to Disneyland with my parents for my birthday, Christmases spent with everyone I love in my Nannie’s house. It takes me back to good moments that I spent with my whole family when I was young and trouble free.
