How I Balance All Aspects Of College Life

How are we doing girls? It’s February which is scary for some of us in the final year of our course. It means the scary theses are due soon, so it feels like everything is happening at once. For me anyway. It can be hard sometimes to separate work/college/fun/every aspect of our lives, which is why I’m here to debate whether my method works at all. All aboard and let’s get this show on the road!

Don’t be hard on yourself

I am including this first because it’s something I always remind myself of! It’s okay to have off days! You are not going to fail! (Can you tell I am a worrier by nature?) Anywho, I always need a wee reminder that if one day doesn’t go to plan, tomorrow might, or at least it can be better.

Intentionally set goals

This is another tool I absolutely adore. I am an organized girly at heart, so naturally I own a planner. Each week I look at my big to do list of all the things I need to do & allocate a day for each. So for example, I do 2-3 things per day, depending on the size of the task. That might include reading, writing or even editing radio shows!

Make plans

My favourite way to not be too stressed and to ensure a somewhat balanced lifestyle is to make plans in advance. For example, last week I made plans for brunch with a friend this week, which meant I had time allocated & was keeping up my social life!

Don’t work excessively

Okay, here’s my disclaimer. I know not everyone has the luxury of not working a lot/at all in college. Let’s not attack each other here. How I work things is I try my best to keep my hours to a minimum. I work a day, maybe 2 in the week, but that’s the majority of what I do. I find that I can earn some cash but also be able to give time to my college work & my girlies!

Make plans pt2

This is probably my favourite way to manage things, purely because I am organized. When I know I have a huge deadline (cough cough thesis) I always make a schedule/timeline of things. So I have each week from now to my thesis submission date marked out with what I need to be doing to stay on track. Now is that one working? That’s for me to know and you to guess.

Happy balancing friends!
