Fashion Trends To Watch Out For This Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DCU chapter.

I believe autumn is the best season for fashion addicts. After the summer season when everything has to be comfortable for the hot weather, October comes and it’s time for layering more and more, choosing stylish pieces that will go well together, shoe shopping and comfy coats, scarves and hats.

Autumn clothes have to be warm and comfortable, but also stylish and full of personality. Every year new trends make shopping more fun and brush aside simple bomber jackets and- although always a staple- black Dr. Martens boots.

The first trend that caught my eye this year was all over the fashion runways. It is as simple as the colour red which in all its nuance is perfect for making a look brighter and more eye-catching during a grey autumn day.

We saw Kendall Jenner walk for Schiaparelli in the perfect shade of cherry red, but for day wear, the whole look doesn’t have to be completely red.

We can simply rely on accessories such as a crocodile-embossed red bag, a warm scarf or a really good pair of lacquered red boots.

Perhaps this second trend can be combined with the first, as it has to do with boots as well. The second key fashion item is over-the-knee boots.

Although they can seem scary and hard to style at first glance, they surely will elevate your next night out look, whether styled with shorts or a skirt or even used instead of trousers with a bodysuit underneath.

Other shoes to keep an eye out for are biker boots, which we first saw in the Miu Miu collection in 2022 and that are now everywhere, and a comeback that took us by surprise, Mary Janes shoes, both delicate and Parisian-inspired flats or chunky 70s heels.

According to runways, a simple white shirt and a long black coat are also in high demand.

These staple pieces never really went out of fashion and investing in good quality items such as these are never a bad idea.

One can surely give a twist to the classic look by choosing an oversized, almost goth, long black coat or a more particularly shaped shirt that could become a dress, or even by implementing the other trends of the season and pop in a bit of red.

Finally, another trend that was all over the runways and that is also really simple to recreate for day-to-day wear, is off-the-shoulder. The beautifully structured over-the-shoulder corsets that we saw during Vivienne Westwood’s Paris show, can be emulated with soft sweaters that are versatile because they can be worn as normal sweaters, sometimes even high necked, or off one-shoulder or both shoulders.
