With every season comes new trends. Keeping up with trends can be difficult (and expensive!) when you’re a student with little time and even less money. Here’s your pocket-sized guide to Autumn 2017 trends as well as links to some student-friendly online shops where you can buy some of my favourite pieces. Happy shopping!

  • Retro hats.

This season we saw a lot of dramatic headwear on the runway. From fur baker hats at Miu Miu to leather berets from Dior, the bigger the better. We’ll be sure to see any number of high street nods to the trend, and I’ve linked you some great student-friendly alternatives below.

  • Suit up.

Broad shoulders are back with a bang and suits are the perfect way to pay homage to the trend that we saw take over the runway this season. With labels like Céline and Alexander Wang working the trend, so can you. Over-sized grey blazers paired with a matching dress pant is a timeless and edgy look that is sure to suit any body type of height.

  • Mid-length skirts and dresses.

With every Autumn comes the return of mid-lengths. This length is flattering and low-maintenance to wear, which makes it an easy statement piece to incorporate into any person’s wardrobe. Flute style mid-length pieces are bang on trend for Autumn 17. You can dress them up or down, making them one of this seasons must-haves.

  • Comfy coats.

One of the most predictable and necessary autumn trends, a huge comfortable coat. This season you’ll be seeing a lot of fur as well as teddy coats. The great thing about Autumn coats is the amazing array of colours they’re available in. From your given burnt oranges to your rose pinks there is something for everyone this season.

  • Corduroy.

Corduroy is back and stronger than ever. A strong nod to the 70’s which comes in all forms and colours. From skirts to jackets, corduroy is something that everyone can work this Autumn. Layer up with a corduroy shearling jacket or pair a cord pinafore with a high neck Victorian style blouse.

  • Chunky shoes.

This is a trend which will make you want to resurrect the clunky shoes that you used to wear to primary school. Chunky footwear is perfect for Autumn as chunkier shoes look perfect paired with thick socks or tights. Chunky shoes were a strong element of Marc Jacobs Autumn collection and something that we are sure to see a lot of on the high street.

  • Slouchy knee-length boots.

Also trending in footwear is to the knee or over-the knee slouchy boots. Boots are essential in anybody’s Autumn wardrobe, and this season we have any number of high-street alternatives. Slouchy boots give outfits an effortless look and add texture to your outfit.

  • Going-out glamour.

Autumnal weather is the perfect opportunity to bring back dark, rich colours to your going-out wardrobe and not to mention glitter. Autumn is the best time for elegant LBD’s whether they’re Balmain inspired or velvet wrap-arounds. This trend is a welcome change from the white jeans and pastel crop tops of the summer.

  • Cinched waists.

This season saw runway models being nipped in at the waist with thick belts. Most of us banished thick belts from our wardrobe after wearing them with bodycon skirts to local discos, but they’re back and they can add a fashion forward vibe to anyone’s outfit.

  • Rhinestones!

Embellishment is big this season and can be tied in to even the blandest of wardrobes. From dramatic boots to earrings, this is the perfect party trend and is not to be missed. Rihanna dared to wear a pair of rhinestone boots by St Laurent and since then the trend has spiralled, there’s a way for everyone to sparkle this autumn.
