Every year we see new beauty trends enter the scene; some stick around for a long time and others don’t make it to see the New Year’s Eve party.

The latest beauty trend, skin minimalism, is all about embracing the natural texture of your skin and welcoming minimalism into your makeup and beauty routines.

Not only do you end up with gorgeously glowing skin, you’ll end up creating a quick and simple routine that will save you time and money. It also helps to cut down on waste, making it an environmentally friendly trend.

Also known as skinimalism, this trend tries to get rid of the idea of using makeup to cover up and for fixing flaws.

A dermatologist told Shape that “skinimalism is a movement towards embracing your real skin – less makeup and fewer beauty products – and allowing your natural glow to shine as opposed to heavy layers of makeup and contouring that often reflect unrealistic beauty standards commonly seen on social media.”

In order to achieve the natural dewy look, skinimalism begins with a stripped back skincare routine. Of course, you don’t need to throw everything out, but you should look at the products you get the most benefit from.

For some people, this could be removing a toner or a third serum from the mix. Alternatively, you might need to add some products to get glowing skin.

To begin you will need to focus on three key products; cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen.

Cleanser ensures all dirt and sweat is removed from your face, the moisturiser will create a skin barrier while locking in moisturiser. While the sunscreen will protect your face from UV rays and early aging.

One of our favourite brands for all three of those is Cerave. This is an affordable, yet effective brand that can be bought in most chemists.

Each of their products contain ceramides that help to restore your skin’s natural barrier and are often mixed with other chemicals like hyaluronic acid (hydrating) and salicylic acid (exfoliating) to target other areas of your skin.

Start with just these three products and see how your skin develops over a few weeks. If you feel like you’re missing something then add in an extra one or two products, such a vitamin C serum or retinol creams.

Now that your skin is taken care of, what do you do with your makeup? A great place to start is also a very minimal routine that starts with an illuminating base.

If you’re looking to splash out, Charlotte Tilbury’s Brightening Youth Glow is a great radiance booster, costing €48.20 in Brown Thomas. For a mid-range base, you can’t go wrong with the Beauty Base from Sculpted by Aimee Connolly, which retails at €24.99.

If you’re on a budget, which let’s face it most of us are, our must-haves are a tie between NYX Born to Glow (€9.20) and the L.A. Girl Luminous Glow (€6.75).

Whatever your price range, a glowy base is definitely achievable! As for the rest of your makeup apply a concealer under your eyes and wherever else you need it, a cream blusher, mascara and eyebrow gel.

When using blusher, or even a bronzer, cream products are the best way to achieve a natural looking base as they blend seamlessly into the skin.

Who would’ve thought our next beauty trend would be so affordable and so easy to achieve? Why not try it out yourself and we can all radiate through our Zoom rooms!
