Why “Bones” Will Always Have a Place in Our Hearts

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Davidson chapter.

For those of you have been living under a rock since 2005, I have one word that will change your life: bones. No I’m not talking about the calcium rich things that hold your body together. No, these “bones” refer to an Emmy-nominated TV series that has been running for 12 seasons. Unfortunately, if you haven’t heard about it, you’ve missed out on a lot that this crime-fighting forensics team has come face to face with. No worries though, you can stream the first 11 seasons on Netflix and watch the current season live on FOX every Tuesday at 9 p.m. EST.

Bones is now in its 12th and final season (I know, I cried a little when I heard it too). So, for those of you who are die-hard Bones fans like myself, here are 7 reasons why Bones will always be the best series TV has ever created.

***SPOILER ALERT! If you have not seen Bones, are in the middle of watching all 234 episodes, or plan to start watching, reading ahead will spoil all of the juicy plotlines for you.***

1. The bromance between Sweets and Booth

Am I the only one who felt some serious sexual tension between psychologist Lance Sweets and stellar FBI agent Seeley Booth? Those boys did everything together–they defeated Gormogon, the Gravedigger, and Pelant; they bought lingerie together; they even lived together for a season. Sweets died in Booth’s arms, and his son was even named after Booth! Can a bromance get any cuter than that?

2. The serial killers

Who could forget Howard Epps? Or Gormogon? What about the Gravedigger, Jacob Broadsky, or Pelant? Or even the Ghost Killer? These serial killers made us scared to walk around alone at night, but they also stunned us with their amazing intellect (that even rivaled Brennan’s sometimes). These episodes were the most engaging, terrifying, and (strangely) left us wanting more serial killers to try to kidnap our favorite characters so Booth or Brennan could save the day!

3. Brennan’s unapologetic honesty

As far as I can tell, there is no character out there like Temperance Brennan. She’s brilliant, beautiful, savvy, and always quick to crack a bad joke. She’s a great mom to Christine, Hank, and Parker and a loving wife to Booth. She always lets us know that she’s right. She’s never humble, and that’s why we love her!

4. The Squinterns

Daisy, Wendell, Clark, Finn, Arastoo, Vincent Nigel-Murray (may he rest in peace), Fisher, Fuentes, Wells, and Jessica Warren. They are always there to help crack the case and deal wonderfully with Brennan’s tough, but well intentioned, criticism. They are, and always will be, part of the Jeffersonian family.

5. The theme tune

It’s not even good enough to call it a theme song; it’s a theme tune. It’s sort of terrible, sort of amazing, and really great to dance to.

6. Caroline Julian

Oh, Caroline. I never get tired of hearing her say “cher.” Although she doesn’t show up in every episode, her return is always much awaited, and her go-to line, “I did not hear that,” always makes us laugh.

7. Seeley Booth

There is not much explanation needed–Seeley Booth is an integral character to the series. Since day one, he has been brave, funny, strong, caring, and hot as hell. His love for Brennan is unwavering, and his sniper skills are record breaking (literally). His faults (most notably his gambling addiction) remind us all that no human is perfect, even though he comes pretty close. Booth has made us laugh, he’s made us cry, and he’s made unreal expectations for all our future boyfriends.

Even after the final episode airs, Bones will remain in our hearts forever!
