You begin Davidson with a fresh start. You can be whoever you want to be. You choose your friend group, you expand your mind, and you join activities that truly interest you. I’d like to think that my senior year self is a vastly improved version of my high school self. But when I return home for breaks and meet up with my high school bffs, I revert to many of my old ways. Below are some signs that you are a different person with your friends at home than you are with your friends at Davidson.
AT DAVIDSON: You spend your Davidson lunch dates talking about the independent study you’re creating and how your professor is amazing.
AT HOME: You spend your lunch reunions making stupid jokes.
AT DAVIDSON: You realize that you don’t actually know if your Davidson friend has aunts and uncles or if her grandparents are still alive.
AT HOME: You drink wine with your friends’ siblings, mothers, aunts, and grandmothers.
AT DAVIDSON: Your night ends after making the rounds at F, Ryburn, and all court parties.
AT HOME: Your night ends dancing to the Jonas Brothers in the basement of your friend’s childhood home.
AT DAVIDSON: You tell your Davidson friends all the scandalous details about your friends from home.
AT HOME: You tell your friends at home all the juicy secrets about your Davidson friends.
AT DAVIDSON: All conversations include your plans for your next job/internship/grant/fellowship.
AT HOME: You reminisce about your weird high school Biology teacher, your elementary school principal, and your childhood pets.
