Preview: DIY Ugly Christmas Sweater Event

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Davidson chapter.

December is here, the weather is finally actually getting cold (at least for this SoCal kid), and finals are on their merry way, but never fear – it’s also Christmastime!

In light of the holiday, Her Campus Davidson and the ever-amazing Union Board are cosponsoring a DIY Holiday Party on Saturday night (10pm-12am in the 900 Room). On this momentous occasion, you will be able to partake in all the festivities your heart desires: make your own Ugly Christmas Sweater, build gingerbread houses, drink delicious hot cocoa, cut cutesy paper snowflakes, and perhaps most importantly, enjoy a pre-finals screening of the seminal holiday classic Elf. Seriously, all this in one room. (Plus, you can come right after Christmas in Davidson, so it’s perfect timing for optimal procrastination/study break.)

In honor of this upcoming event, I’ve scoured the Internet for some of my favorite tacky sweaters. Enjoy.

1. The not-too-tacky but also intertextual. (Apparently “ya filthy animals” is a Home Alone reference! Who knew?)

2. Santa on a Unicorn. With a sword. In space. What more could you ask for??? But actually, I want to own this.

3. This incredible sweaterdress featuring a cat hugging a candy cane with mints floating in the background. There’s so much going on here that I’m not sure what else to say except: I am wearing this the next time I go down the hill.

4. “Somebody once told me”… that Christmas isn’t complete without Shrek. No? Shrek jokes? Okay.

5. And finally, the most despicable thing I’ve ever seen. (I mean this genuinely because I HATE MINIONS, but also: pun intended.)

Unfortunately and INCREDIBLY, the average for these tacky holiday sweaters is about $50. I don’t know why or how, but I know you’re better off just coming to make your own on Saturday night. (Unless you want to buy me the unicorn one, in which case, feel free to drop it off in the 900 Room this Saturday at 10pm.) Happy holidays!
