So it’s parents weekend and your parents have informed you that they love you… but not that much. So here’s a guide to surviving parent’s weekend without your parents.
1. Go out to as many dinners as possible!
Thanks parents for making me eat my feelings!
Your friends, if they are any sort of real, should invite you with them to at least ONE meal with their parents. Especially if they know you’re off meal plan. And if they don’t, their parents will probably take pity on you. Say yes to all of the invitations possible.
2.Treat yourself with the other lonely students.
Take yourselves out, no parents allowed, to a movie, or dinner, or shopping, or anything. Enjoy your freedom on the weekend, being able to avoid all of those awkward and/or boring parental events the college throws.
3. Party harder.
Your parents are not here to own you at beer pong or judge you for being hungover in the morning when you meet them for brunch… or worse, church (I’m all for church, but it does suck after a ragin’ night). You should enjoy this freedom, the freedom of college!
4. Call your parents.
Hey Ma
Just because they didn’t spring for a plane ticket doesn’t mean they don’t love you! And you know you miss them as you third wheel with all of your friends’ parents. Give them a call and enjoy the sounds of their voices.
5. Get some work done.
Okay–it’s not high on your list for the weekends, but if all of your friends are busy being loved by their parents, take advantage of the lack of distractions and get some work done!
