HC Survival Kit Makeup Tutorial

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Davidson chapter.

This month’s Her Campus Survival Kit spotlights Rimmel London Cosmetics! We received a ton of awesome products, like their Scandeleyes Volume Flash Mascara and Waterproof Kohl Liner, Provocalips Kiss Proof Lip Color, and Waterproof Natural Bronzer. After doing a little experimenting, I’ve come up with an easy, yet fierce look for the winter season! This look can be dressed up or down, depending on whether you’re going to take an exam or going to a holiday party. Let’s get started.

Here are the products I’m using:

The mascara and eyeliner are in the shades Extreme Black and Black, while this bronzer is no. 21 in Sun Light and the lips are no. 730 in Make Your Move.

Step I: Prep your skin with primer and apply your favorite foundation/concealer to create an even base. I’ve been enjoying using a mixture of Revlon’s ColorStay Foundation and BECCA’s Aqua Luminous Perfecting Foundation since it keeps my skin dewy and moisturized in the cold weather. Set with powder if needed.

Step II: Apply bronzer in key areas of your face where the sun would normally hit. It’s not the same as applying contour powder, so here’s a handy chart that can explain the technique better than I can –

Step III: For the eyes, I applied a bit of the bronzer using my fingertips to my eyelid, blending softly into the crease. Next, line your upper waterline (be careful, it can tickle if you’re not used to it!) with the kohl liner. For your actual lash line, I recommend applying the liner with an angle brush, since the product is very creamy. If you don’t have one, just work in small, zig-zag motions. Line close to your lash line, then create a small ‘flick’ outward. Here’s a more in-depth winged eyeliner tutorial if you need it. Curl and coat your lashes with mascara. Eyes done!

Step IV:  Instead of applying the lip color straight from the tube, I opted to create a softer look by applying some product to my fingertips, then transferring that to the center of my lips in tapping motions. This way, you get the look and feel of a stain, rather than a heavier, matte finish. If you’re feeling glossy, apply a bit of gloss from the opposite end of the product to the center of your lips to create volume and give dimension.

Ta-da! I’d recommend actually doing something with your hair unlike me, but regardless.

Enjoy the last few days of the semester!
