Channel Your Inner TV Diva Part 1: Mindy Lahiri

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Davidson chapter.

Fall TV is now in full swing, bringing with it Mindy’s outrageous spunk, Jess’s quirky charm, and Kerry’s professional cool. Our beloved Hulu classics offer more than just an escape from that never-ending Davidson workload; they are also sources for new trends and styles. Yet much of what appears on our TV (or computer) screens remains decidedly out of reach for us wee college folk, especially for those of us who still suffer a panic attack every time fall book buying season comes around. Nothing like changing leaves, hot cocoa, and the loss of my inheritance to signal the start of fall!

But what if these trends weren’t so out of reach? What if you could emulate Mindy’s modern art inspired getups and eat regular meals? This post marks the first of a series where I will search notoriously cheap stores for outfits inspired by different TV characters. Frugal penny pinchers and bargain hunters take heed: it is in fact possible to find cute and cheap things outside your trustworthy Value Village (a cult classic, I know, but variety is always welcome, right?).

This week I explored time-tested favorites such as Forever 21 and Target along with newcomers Go Jane and Necessary Clothing to create a Mindy-esque wardrobe.

So don’t get discouraged by the oh-so-out-of-reach designer closet of Tuesday night’s favorite doctor/Drama Queen. Just throw on that green sequin dress (now all yours), channel your inner Sandra, and carry on. Debt free.
