The 6 Best Places to Read on Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Davidson chapter.

Now that spring is slowly but surely rolling in to Davidson, it’s time for us collegiettes to pick up a good book and start reading again after a long winter of nothing but Hulu, Netflix, and HBO. But where should you be reading? Reading in new places can be tricky, because you want to be comfortable, but not so comfortable that you’ll fall asleep, and it’s hard to know where you can get some uninterrupted page time. May I recommend the following places? That’s a rhetorical question, now here are my recommendations:

1. The Adirondack chairs on the Chambers lawn

These bad boys are weather dependent, but always reliable. Plus, they are easy to find and comfortable in sun or shade (just maybe not rain).

2. Lake Campus

So this technically isn’t on campus, but it also technically isn’t off campus…Bring a blanket and get some sun while you make any reading into beach reading.

3. Nummit

Sorry…I mean Summit Outpost. The coffee shop ambiance is perfect for some light reading, and I’m a sucker for the porch when the weather is nice. Plus, you’ll feel like a hipster.

4. The music library

Full disclosure, I’ve never actually been in the music library, but everyone I know who has really enjoys doing stuff there, so I’m sure that reading there would also be nice. Email me if that’s not true.

5. The Multicultural House

Besides the occasional bad flashback from taking all of my finals sophomore fall in the Multicultural House, this is probably the perfect spot. The couches are comfortable, people are nice, and there’s free tea and hot chocolate.

6. Honestly anywhere in the Union

The tables outside by the football field, first floor couches, a second floor table, in the gym, you name it, I would read there. Just maybe not in the Center for Career Development.
