5 Ways to Get Organized

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Davidson chapter.

I’m sure everyone knows the college struggles of keeping everything where you can find it. Maybe you started the semester out that way, but now everything’s out of place and you need some tips to get organized. Well, I’m here to help.

1. Bullet Journal

I discovered this phenomenon about a year ago, and while I haven’t kept it up, it worked really well for me when I used it. Basically, a bullet journal is a journal you can put everything in, so that all of your information and to-do lists are in one place. Never again will you misplace that sticky note reminding you of a doctor’s appointment, or lose your grocery list. The format involves a month calendar and a day calendar, but after that it’s as customizable as you want it to be. Check out how to make one here, and here’s an example journal.

2. Rotating Goal List

For those not a fan of carrying a journal everywhere, but prefer to keep their plans in one place, try making a goal list that you can change every week. The nice thing about this is that it’s easy to change (simply remove and replace the post-it notes) and it keeps the goals within reach, as it’s all stuff that needs to get done within the week. Also, you can customize it and make it in whatever design appeals to you and your style. Check it out here.

3. Clothes

For clothing that doesn’t have to go on a hanger (not much in terms of women’s clothing), there’s a special method of folding T-shirts that lets you see the designs while still maximizing your drawer space.

In terms of getting yourself more space, hanging shoe boxes are great because you can use them for shoes or clothing, depending on what you need.

For hanging items, hang your hangers together as far down as they can go in order to make the best use of your space.

4. Cords

Everyone knows how tangled and messy a drawer full of cords can be. Now, while too much of an effort for me, making a charging station might be a fun and cute way for a lot of people to keep their cords organized. PopSugar has a super fun and easy DIY charger station with instruction, so if that’s what you’re looking for, check it out here.

5. Desk

Rather than having a drawer full of unorganized clutter and never being able to find anything, try using drawer organizers. They come in a variety of forms: either a group of them all stuck together or a bunch of separate tubs, whatever works best for you. Investing in these actually makes a surprising difference. You can keep your pencils and pens in one tub, post-it notes and tabs in another, and overall just make your life easier, so you won’t spend a ton of time searching for what you want. Similarly, the kind of mini drawers and pencil holders that sit on top of your desk are also great, although they may just end up adding to the clutter already on the desk.

Hope these tips help you get organized, or at least pare down some of the clutter!
