The 5 Struggles of Being Under 5 Feet in College

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Davidson chapter.

Being short in college can be difficult. Especially at Davidson, where everyone seems to be ridiculously tall. So here are the 5 struggles of being under 5 feet in college.

1. You Can’t Reach Anything

From my mailbox in the union, to the dryers in Belk, I can’t reach anything at Davidson. When performing simple tasks, I have to either bring a tall friend along, or compute complicated mathematical equations to figure out the way to reach it,

2. People Will Always Think You’re A High- Schooler

Ever since I walked onto Davidson’s campus I have gotten confused looks, like “do you actually go here”. I have also been walking down the hill and someone screamed: “Why is there a high schooler here? She doesn’t even go here!”

3. It is Impossible to Find Professional Clothes

Being the size of a 12-year-old girl can make it very hard to find business attire. I either try to avoid events that require it, or wear that one magical professional outfit I was lucky enough to find to all the events.

4. You Are Constantly Jogging to Catch Up with Your Friends

Your short legs can only go so fast, so you are constantly jogging just to keep up with your taller friends. Not to mention when you are running late to class and you see all the tall people pass you as you struggle to speed walk.

5. You Turn Pictures with Your Friends into Family Photos

Taking pictures with all my tall friends makes me look like their little sister. Instead of a picture of college girls, it looks a picture of a college girl whose 10-year-old little sister snuck in the picture and her friends.

Despite all these struggles, being short is awesome! Love who you are!
