Top 11 Healthy Snacks For Your Dorm Room

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Dartmouth chapter.

After attending college for two years, the most important lesson I learned is to always have some snacks in your dorm room. I study in my room and sometimes I just need some brain food and the walk to the next dining location is just too long!  Yet, I always try to keep a healthy and balanced diet. Here are my top eleven must-have snacks for your room:

1.   Roasted Chickpeas

I highly recommend Biena’s Chickpeas in all flavors! They have a good amount of protein and fiber and even 70% less fat than peanuts! They have all different kinds of flavors – from Sea Salt to Rockin’ Ranch to Barbeque. They even have some sweeter options if you have a sweet tooth!

2.   Roasted Edamame

They are also high in protein and have many different kinds of vitamins and minerals. Plus, they simply taste delicious because they are incredibly crunchy!

3.   Halo Top Ice Cream

My favorite flavor at the moment is “Oatmeal Cookie.” This ice cream has fewer calories than other ice creams and even contains some protein!

4.   Protein Bars

Protein bars are very filling. My go-to are  ThinkThin, because not only are they delicious, they’re not t packed with sugar like many other ‘healthy’ granola or protein bars.

5.   Graze

Graze is an online company that sends you healthy snacks as often as you want. I get a pack of eight every two weeks. Snacks include dried fruit, flapjacks, protein packed snacks and much more!

6.   Fruit

You should always have some kind of fruit in your dorm – bananas and raspberries are a favorite of mine!

7.   Oats

You can make so many different snacks with oats – starting with the classic oatmeal to which you can add some bananas, almond butter or chocolate chips!

8.   Greek Yogurt

It is filled with protein, so it will keep you full! Add some oats, fresh fruit or honey to pep it up a bit.

9.   Crunchy snacks

Some almonds or popcorn is always great. I love the Popcorn by Graze!

10. Veggies

I absolutely love cucumbers, so having so I like chopping up a cucumber every now and then and keeping it in my fridge so I can snack on it.

11. Dark Chocolate

Dark chocolate actually has tons of health benefits,so enjoy this delicious snack! My personal favorite has always been Lindt’s Dark Chocolate

The great thing about many of these snacks is that you can combine them. How about crumbling up the protein bar and sprinkling it on top of your Greek Yoghurt? Almond butter mixed into Halo Top Ice Cream topped with bananas? Yes, please! These snacks are all incredibly versatile, so get creative enjoy and have fun!
