Do you open browser tabs? It’s not a trick question. While some of us constantly operate with dozens of open tabs and others curate our tabs a bit more carefully, we all have one thing in common: we use browser tabs. So what if we found a way to make our tab opening beneficial to more than just ourselves?

Tab for a Cause is a Google Chrome extension that raises money for charity every time you open a tab. It transforms your Google Chrome home screen into a beautiful background picture with a small advertisement on the side and uses the ad revenue to raise money for good causes. Every time you open a tab, you receive one “heart,” which is equivalent to an amount of money between 1/10 of and 1 cent. This might not seem like a lot, but it adds up!

Once you have accumulated hearts, you can donate the hearts to a charity of your choice, which tells Tab for a Cause to donate the equivalent amount of money to the charity. Tab for a Cause supports a variety of great organizations, including Action Against Hunger, which works to end world hunger, Water.org, which provides access to clean water, and Save the Children, which protects the safety and well-being of children around the world.

Tab for a Cause lets you raise money for charity by doing what you already do every day.

This is my custom referral link, which will give me 350 hearts to donate if you sign up. If you’re a nice person, please use this link!

If you’re a slightly less nice person and don’t want to use my referral link, here is the regular link to use instead. I won’t be mad, I promise.

Below are some examples of what your homepage would look like with Tab for a Cause. You can customize the background picture and display according to your preferences while keeping the Google search and bookmark bar from your old homepage. Now if someone asks you why you have so many tabs open, you can tell them it’s for a good cause!

A dreamy sunset over mountains with a side of real estate and car ads. Choose your favorite from their selection of photos, use your own photo, or have them rotate between photos so you get a new one every day. Isn’t this more exciting than a plain Google search bar?

Healthy skepticism is a good thing, but I can assure you Tab for a Cause is completely free and legitimate. Reviewed by HuffPost and Medium, Tab for a Cause is truly a way to do good at no cost to you.
