The most loved-filled day of the year is slowly creeping up again. As someone that has been single for many Valentine’s Days, I typically try to avoid social media at all costs as the day approaches. Seeing all the happy couples proclaiming their love for each other through Instagram posts can really put a single girl in a terrible mood. That is why this year I am making it my mission to share some ways to help all of us single girls stay positive on Valentine’s Day.

Have a Galentine’s Day Planned

Nothing is better than getting together with your friends and complaining about all your past relationships. Plus, having other single friends around can remind you that you are not alone, which can be very comforting. Crack open that bottle of wine and pull out your favourite board game because this year Valentine’s Day is your time to shine.

Take a Break From Social Media

There is really no need to be scrolling through countless pictures of all the couples on your timeline. Throw that phone away! Who really needs to see that? Instead, try doing something beneficial for your mental health, like journalling or going for a walk.

Treat Yourself

This is the day to buy that thing that you’ve been eyeing for weeks. Make this holiday a time for some self-love. Make sure you spoil yourself, even if it’s something as small as a sweet treat. As long as it brings some joy to your day, it’s worth it.

Get Outside

Go out and enjoy some fresh air. I find going for walks by myself very relaxing and distracting from everything else going on in the world. You could have a goal or place to travel to – or not. It doesn’t really matter, as long as you take the time to really look at what is around you and see how lucky you are to be where you are.

Do Something That You Have Been Putting Off

Have you just been dying to read that book that’s taking up space on your shelf? What about that bath bomb that has just been sitting in the closet, waiting to be used? This is the day to do things for yourself. Stop putting off the activities that you want to do. Designate some time in your day for that special something and just enjoy yourself.

Binge Watch a Series

As someone who finds binge-watching TV every so often very therapeutic, I highly recommend finding that one show that you are willing to spend hours enjoying. For me, at the moment, this is the series Suits. Make some popcorn and get cozy; this makes for the perfect night in.

Something to keep in mind is that being single is actually a great thing. You get to focus on yourself and really develop your character in amazing ways. Believe me, the happy couple posts on your feed are not always showing the relationship’s whole story. This holiday may make you feel very single but just keep that love for yourself and remember that everything is going to be okay.
