A Winter Escape with Pantone’s Colour of the Year: Peach Fuzz

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Dalhousie chapter.

Peach Fuzz 13-1023 was revealed to be the Colour of the Year in Pantone’s much-awaited announcement. The soft peach shade is beautifully painted by Laurie Pressmen, the Vice President of the Pantone Colour Institute, who attributes it to an “all-embracing spirit (which) enriches, heart, mind, and body.” I completely agree with her statement – its muted tone seems to be working like a time machine, taking me back to a time when pastel colours were all the rage in my youth.

The soft Peach Fuzz colour is a fresh change of pace from the bright and saturated colours that permeate our daily existence. (Even right now, I’m sitting at a table in the library facing a bright orange wall.) I find that the understated elegance of the shade transports the viewer’s senses to a place of tranquility and nostalgia, in addition to the visual feast it provides as such a gorgeous colour. It is a chromatic escape that takes me back to simpler times when pastels represented a calming aesthetic as I highlighted my papers with a pastel shade highlighter, rather than just being mere colours.

Now think about adding a little Peach Fuzz to your nails as part of your nail routine. Consider embracing the timeless trend of minimalist nail art, alongside Hailey Bieber’s “glazed donut” chrome nails which went viral on Tiktok in 2022. A peachy nail polish base, like Dior’s “Rivage 333” or OPI’s “Crawfishin’ for a Compliment,” combined with a skinny French tip could be the foundation for a cute nail look. Then, apply a chrome topcoat to the nail to further elevate it and pay homage to the “glazed donut” chrome nails that went viral in 2022.

I find the resurgence of minimalist nail art a sign of an aesthetic shift in fashion rather than just a passing fad. The strategy, which embraces understated sophistication and simplicity, aligns perfectly with the classic charms of Pantone’s Colour of the Year Peach Fuzz. It symbolises a call to rethink beauty, highlighting the subtle beauty of subdued hues over the flamboyance of more vibrant and saturated, flashy hues.

And then, especially in Canada’s harsh winters, why not wrap yourself in the coziness of a peach-toned scarf to stay warm during the chilly months ahead? Although it leans more toward blush peach, the Balmuir Scarf Callee that is featured acts as a visual cue for a subtle pop of colour that will spruce up your winter look without taking centre stage. It is a whisper of style, a subtle statement of style that, in its quietness, says a lot.

With the For Love & Lemons Lottie Maxi Dress, let’s now venture into the world of designer fashion. The dress, which looks as though it was taken straight out of a debutante ball fantasy, is proof of the classic elegance that Peach Fuzz embodies. Even though the price is high, the dress is more than just a piece of clothing; it is an investment in a story, a sophisticated declaration that reverberates through the world of fashion. Maybe in a world where I’m reborn as Blair Waldorf, with the dress’ hefty price tag, I will wear it, but for those that can afford it, after all, classic elegance is nothing without a hint of extravagance.

And while we are talking about lifestyle, let us not forget about the Twillery Co.’s Tobiah Ultra Soft Microfiber Sheet Set. The essence of Peach Fuzz is infused into the very fabric of our homes with these sheets, which are luxurious in their embrace and soft as a whisper. Fashion has expanded beyond what we wear to include how we live. We can now imagine enveloping your living area in the same soft warmth, producing a haven that reflects the nostalgia and tranquility that the alluring hue of Peach Fuzz embodies.

Every element in Peach Fuzz’s symphony, from delicately coloured nails to scarves that swathe the cold winter air and dresses that whisper of debutante dreams, harmonizes to create a melody of sophisticated elegance. It is more than just Pantone’s Colour of the Year; it voyages in an investigation of subtle aesthetic qualities that withstand fads and serve as classic displays of grace and style.

I'm just your average neighbourhood college student, Hillary, whose heart beats to the beat of dance, music, and the pleasures of cuisine. These passions coexist in harmony in my life, and they all come together in my academic journey from Singapore to Dalhousie University, where I'm committed to the study of justice and the law. If I'm not studying a large sum of class readings, honing dance, or listening to hip hop and R&B hits, you can probably find me enjoying the cozy comforts of matcha or chai lattes made with oat milk.
