Why You Shouldn’t Love Machine Gun Kelly

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CWU chapter.

If you’ve been on TikTok or Twitter at all in the last few months, you’d know that Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly are the hot item. Unfortunately, the internet seems to have forgotten how problematic MGK really is. Here is a brief history of all the wrong, creepy, and downright weird things MGK has said.

TW – Pedophilia, Racism

In a now-deleted tweet from 2010, MGK states, “I wish 13/14/15-year-old girls weren’t allowed to be hot, so I wouldn’t feel like such a creeper when I look at them … I’m still 19.” On May 7th, 2012, Machine Gun Kelly also tweeted “ok so I just saw a picture of Eminem’s daughter…and I just have to say, she is hot as f*ck, in the most respectful way possible cuz Em is king.” The tweet itself was about famous American rapper Eminem’s daughter who at the time was only 16 years old. These tweets aren’t the only time Kelly has made a disturbing and pedophilic comment about underage girls.

In a 2013 interview with Fuse, Machine Gun Kelly talked about his crush on Kendall Jenner. For reference, in 2013 Jenner was only 17 years old while MGK was 23. When questioned about the age gap between him and Kendall Jenner, MGK said, “Robert Plant, who was one of the greatest lead singers ever, dated a girl that was 14. Axel Rose, who was one of the biggest badasses ever, dated a girl that was 16 … I don’t care.”

Besides the blatant pedophilic statements made by Machine Gun Kelly, there are still more problematic comments to recall from his past. Machine Gun Kelly claimed that black women gave the best oral sex in a BET awards interview and then went on to say that it was meant as a compliment. Of course, this comment is not a compliment in the slightest, which just goes to show how out of touch and messed up his thinking is.

There is simply no justification for the sexualization of underage girls or for misogynoir and it is disturbing how quick people were to forget about it once the conversation died down and he came into the spotlight with Megan Fox. There was simply no way for me to compile every single detail about Machine Gun Kelly for this article, but I feel that it is imperative to remember these comments made by MGK and hold him accountable.
