This weekend I was perusing the many movies on Netflix and came across one that seemed pretty interesting called Dumplin’, and let me tell you how glad I am to have happened upon that movie. Dumplin’ stars Jennifer Aniston and Danielle Macdonald, and tells the story of a girl proving a point about size discrimination within her small Texas community. Willowdean, played by Macdonald, is the plus-size daughter of a pageant queen, played by Jennifer Aniston, who decides to protest the discrimination within pageants by joining one. This escalates when other girls follow her footsteps and end up revolutionizing the pageant system.

As a plus-size girl, I found this movie to be such an uplifting experience, that I even started to think about the way that I see myself. Self-love is so insanely important, and Dumplin’ definitely proves that if you can’t love yourself, how in the hell are you gonna love somebody else, ala Rupaul. I’ve struggled with my body image for the majority of my life, and to see a movie like this puts it all into perspective. If you can’t love you in your own skin, then it’s difficult for people to get close to you and for you to get close to them.

And to top it all off, Dumplin’ features some kickass drag queens and a whole lotta’ Dolly Parton, the southern queen herself. So please, do yourself a favor and watch Dumplin’. You won’t regret it!

Be sure and check out our other features this week! HCXO
