Spring in Ellensburg is the time of year that students wait for all year long. Sunshine, longer days, warmer temperatures, and better moods are a few things to look forward to in just weeks away! With summer just around the corners, it’s easy to want to rush through spring. Days of no homework and vacations await, but before you want to rush through spring, here are some tips on how to make spring quarter the best one yet!

1. Make the most of your mornings

Waking up to 20 degrees and a frozen windshield before class is a major turnoff to being a morning person during the winter. But spring is the best time to wake up an hour earlier because the sun starts to rise earlier. Waking up earlier helps make your day full of everything you need to accomplish. By starting earlier, you can actually enjoy breakfast and coffee instead of grabbing a banana and pouring a cup of coffee in your travel mug. Try starting your day off with a fitness class or the gym! Now that the sun is out later, you won’t want to spend your time in a crowded gym. Get your workout done even before your classes of the day to avoid the crowds!

2. Get outside

Even though it doesn’t get warm in Ellensburg until about May, there are still a ton of opportunities to get some sunshine as the weather gets nicer. There are so many hikes around the area like Manastash and Umptanum Ridge that are beautiful in the spring. Pack a picnic and grab a group of friends and celebrate the higher temperatures! When it gets to be 75 degrees and more, rent innertubes from the Outdoor Pursuits and Rentals on campus and float the Yakima River!

3. Lighten your load

If you’ve been taking 18 credits during the past couple of quarters, you probably have room for a lighter course load this spring. By taking only 12 or 13 credits this spring, you will have much more time for other things. Whether that be going outside and enjoying the sunshine or going on weekend road trips, taking a lighter course load is the best way to free up time in your schedule.

4. Invest in adventure

It’s easy to squirrel away your money in winter because there aren’t a ton of activities to do here in Ellensburg. In spring, there are events everywhere that you can’t miss! The Sasquatch Festival at the Gorge Amphitheater is a three day festival over Memorial Day weekend that has headliners like Tyler, the Creator and Bon Iver. The venue is close to Ellensburg and the passes are almost half the price of Coachella passes!
