Skincare Ingredients Every 20-Something Should Incorporate into Their Routine

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CWU chapter.

Have you ever read the ingredients list of a cleanser or moisturizer and been shocked because you have no clue what any of the ingredients are? You’re not alone! Over the past year, I have become obsessed with skincare during my quest for perfect skin. I’ve spent countless nights reading articles, watching YouTube videos, and stalking @skincarebyhyram on Instagram to figure out what I should be applying to my face every morning and evening. Here are the ingredients that I have found to deliver the best results.

Vitamin C

If you’ve ever been frustrated with your skin’s texture, skin tone, acne scars, or fine lines, then Vitamin C may be the skincare ingredient for you! Vitamin C essentially speeds up the natural regeneration process of the skin, leaving you with smooth, even skin. I spontaneously purchased Tula Skincare’s Brightening Treatment Drops Triple Vitamin C Serum a few months ago and noticed results within the first week! I have a history with acne and scars to prove it, but they were noticeably lighter and less prominent while the overall pinkish tone of my face brightened up. I highly recommend this product for fast results and a reasonable price!

Hyaluronic Acid

Neutrogena
Not as intimidating as it sounds, hyaluronic acid is naturally produced in your body every day. Hyaluronic acid aids in keeping your skin hydrated, making it appear dewy and plump. If you are concerned about your dry skin, this ingredient is easy to find and affordable! My favorite moisturizer is the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel. I have tried multiple products from the Neutrogena Hydro Boost line (where every product includes hyaluronic acid) and can promise you that they work. I usually have oily skin, but during colder months my cheeks become so dry that my skin begins to flake; ever since discovering the benefits of hyaluronic acid I will never go without it!

Retinol

Known as the key ingredient for anti-aging, retinol comes from a retinoid derived from Vitamin A. Retinol is known for fighting wrinkles, acne, and rough texture on your skin. Keep in mind that many brands, especially those found in drugstores, label their goods as retinol products when in reality it is one of the least used ingredients in that product. This is because retinol can be quite expensive, so if you are considering adding this to your routine be sure to do a little research to make sure that you aren’t being misinformed. I personally like Dermalogica’s Retinol Acne Clearing Oil! At first, I was hesitant to purchase because of the price, but after just a few days I noticed my pores shrink and my skin become softer.

What are you waiting for? Head to your nearest Ulta and stock up on these goodies! There is nothing better to invest in than yourself.
