Seabrook is located on Washington Coast’s Olympic Peninsula, which sits on the bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It’s known as a beach rental vacation town and is home to over 450 different sizes and styles of beach houses. It’s a town that you see kids and adults either walking or biking to access any part of the town. It has restaurants, small shops, a town hall and many walking trails that will even take you right down to the beach. Seabrook is a magical town that will make you never want the vacation to end.
Mom and I first got the idea to rent a beach cottage over a year ago after we had ventured out of Ocean Shores. We were told, “you’ve gotta check out Seabrook, it’s so beautiful.” Probably twenty minutes outside of Ocean Shores, we had made it to Seabrook and right when you pull up everyone is so friendly. It makes you wonder how a cute little town like this exists in Washington. We walked around in awe of all the houses big and small and were already planning out the next beach vacation. A few months after we planned it out and decided a week getaway was what we needed.
Fun fact, I had never gone to the beach ever until about two years ago. Ever since then it’s been a place I love to go to every summer. I love just taking walks, grabbing my big metal bucket, throwing on my boots, and looking for sea treasures. This year we were lucky enough to find massive amounts of sand dollars plus some other big shells. It’s always fun every year to have a collection to remember the vacation. With having the beach right below our beach camp cottage, we also were able to drive about ten minutes in either direction and explore other beaches. The beauty about a lot of the beaches around that area is you can just drive right on and find a place to park for the day.
When you have a vacation home it’s fun to plan everything out like meals, what our days are like, and so forth. Cooking on vacation might seem like a drag, but it was a lot of fun. We would spend the day at the beach and come back and make a nice hot meal after walking for hours and hours. We would make things simple and even pack lunches to head out to the beach. Some nights we ventured out into town and indulged at some of their amazing restaurants. My absolute favorite was Koko’s restaurant and tequila bar. They had so many authentic dishes and the chips and salsa are out of this world. I could have sat there and eaten baskets of those chips, they were so different from a traditional Mexican restaurant. I highly recommend checking them out the atmosphere is amazing with a view overlooking the beach.
I think we picked the perfect time to go this year because we escaped a bit of the heatwave we were experiencing. We went from 90-100+ degree weather to 70’s and 60’s and even at night reaching a low of 54 degrees. When we were all beached out for the day, we would come back and do crafts, games, and movies. Mom and I were both in charge of coming up with a couple of crafts to bring so we tried our hand at tye-dying, and rock painting to add to their gnome garden that is nestled in one of the many trails that lead down to the beach. Probably my favorite part of the evening was escaping the world of technology and bringing it back to the days of board games, remember those nights? It’s little things like that, that make you realize we should put down our phones more often and be in the moment and enjoy fun in person and not on screen.
Seabrook Washington is now a new tradition for my mother and me. It’s a chance for us to escape and forget about our busy lives. We get to be kids again. Do yourself a favor, unplug from the world and go to the beach. It’s peaceful. It makes all your troubles disappear. It is so relaxing you may never want to leave. So pull up a chair, dip your toes in the sand, escape.
