Tattoos are becoming more common among young people as creative acceptance has become more common in society. Tattoos are less judged by the older generations and better for college students, less taboo in the workplace. According to the United States Census Bureau, the Millennial generation is now the largest living generation, surpassing the Baby Boomers in 2015. With more diversity than ever in America’s workforce, dress and tattoos are just two of the many ways of creative expression that individuals are evolving. It’s important to consider the industry that you enter when considering getting a tattoo. Startups, creatives, fashion, and marketing are industries that are most likely to be lenient with tattoos.

With that being said, our Her Campus CWU team have plenty of tattoos with amazing backstories. Take a look at some of our favorites:

Forever Friends

Writer Kohl and her roommate’s matching tattoos of the coordinates of their college house.

A very meaningful date

HC CWU President Tiara’s tattoo resembles the birth date of her Grandma and Grandpa who coincidentally were born on the same day. Tiara has a close relationship with her grandparents so she got this tattoo when she was 18 to represent them both.

Moving on from high school

HC CWU Events Director Emily and her best friend got matching sun & moon tattoos on their senior trip to Hawaii to celebrate their graduation.

Mothers love

HC CWU Vice President Madeline got the tattoo on her ribs right after she turned 18 for her mother because daisies are her favorite flower. Getting this tattoo was a way to always have her mom with her as she ventured off to college.

A daily reminder

Writer Jaidin got her tattoo shortly after she turned 18 to remind herself that: “while I may wonder away from God I’m never lost and will never lose him.”

We are on a tattoo kick right now, and we love the meaningful stories behind our own Her Campus tattoos. The craze is so big, that there are new companies that are making temporary tattoos that last up to 2 weeks to test out your potential designs and placement. Let us know what your tattoos symbolize and your story below!
