How to Survive Winter in Ellensburg

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CWU chapter.

As we all know Ellensburg has gotten pretty dang cold these last few weeks. Well it isn’t going to get warmer any time soon, so take your summer clothes back home and bring your winter clothes back because you will need them. Here are a few things you will need to invest in while home for winter break.

Scarves and Hats

Keeping your head, neck, and face warm is one of the most important things to do in this weather. Especially when it is zero degrees with a wind chill of -20, it happens and it is not fun. Having more than one is always fun because you can match them with any outfit.

A Warm Winter Jacket

There are a lot of good brands out there that will keep you warm while walking to class, Patagonia and North Face are just two of those brands. Jackets are a good holiday gift from friends and family especially when you go to school in the artic.

Snow Boots

These are essential here in the Burg. When you come back from break there will be at least a foot of snow and getting that in your shoe is not fun. There are a lot of nice brands of snow boots out there that will keep your toes warm without layering your socks. North Face, SOREL and Cumberland are just a few of the brands to look at when shopping.

Gloves or Mittens, or Both

You can buy these pretty much anywhere. If you are one of those people who get annoyed with gloves because it is hard to answer the phone they make gloves that you can text in now, you can find any of these at Walmart and Target.

Chapstick

Stock up on this you guys. The air gets so dry and cold here your lips are going to be chapped for three months straight. Burt’s Bees is one of the best to have while here. It keeps your lips medicated and keeps them from cracking anymore. This is a great holiday gift, inexpensive and definitely helpful! If you get dry hands Burt’s Bees also has hand balm which is life changing.

If you get everything in this list, you should be set to survive winter here in Ellensburg. Make sure to bring all your winter nesesities back with you after break so you don’t freeze while walking to class winter quarter.
