As we’re heading into the season of finding your summer jobs, deciding whether you’re going to go home or stay in your college town, deciding on what you want to do with your summer. For me, I spent last summer at home and working like crazy to be able to afford to be at school this year, doing long distances with my boyfriend and really doing whatever I could to make the summer go by quickly to be able to go back to Washington. Now since I have done a summer of what makes sense and what most people do when they’re in school I have now decided to take a little spin on my life for the summer of 2022.

I will be working on a dude ranch in Idaho where I will be working in the hospitality department and guest services. I will be pretty much off the grid for the entire summer. I am happy to say that I will be accompanied by my boyfriend, but I will be away from my family for three months with very little contact. I will also be working in a state where I only have one aunt, uncle and a couple of cousins who live 5+ hours away from where I’ll be. I will really be taking a complete break from my whole family and be forced to focus on myself and what I will take away from this summer.

For me as someone who went through a very hard winter season and will most likely have a really hard adjustment to not being able to speak to my mom, dad, and especially my sister and I still could not be as excited as I am for this summer. I have always been an advocate for leaving my comfort zone and trying new things whether that is just by adding a couple more miles in distance or a couple of states in distance. To be able to have that little bit of freedom and experience your life on your own is extremely important for not only growing up but for your own self-growth.

Make summer 2022 the summer for YOU!
