Its here! Your first study abroad program! It’s new and exciting, but it is the first time you are traveling abroad, and you probably have no idea what to expect. Hopefully this will make your planning and last minute worries at ease.

There are some major preparation tips before you take off for your trip.

First make sure to study the language. You don’t need to be fluent but knowing certain words and phrases will come in handy. These 5 phrases will get you through any study abroad experience. Especially #5 you will need to master!

  1. Hello, thank you, goodbye
  2. Where is the restroom?
  3. How old are you?
  4. Are you single?
  5. I need WINE!

Secondly, if you are less concerned with outdoor pursuits and more with retail oppurtunites, study the fashion. Look at the new trends, see what’s in style, and then find the cheapest place to purchase these new outfits. While you are there, you know you are going to go insane on hitting up the shopping centers. So keep your shopping down prior to traveling as cheap as possible. That way you can save your money to shop while on your trip.

Thirdly, look up the amazing hidden places you must visit.

    1. Find the cool places to photograph.
    2. Look for the crazy adventurous hikes.
    3. Find the most fascinating buildings.
    4. Visit the most popular tourist attractions (to show others you have been there).

Lastly, you need to become familiar with the nightlife. Live it up while you are abroad, who know’s when you’ll be there next? Go to the elaborate and gorgeous wine and dine restaurants. Go to the biggest and hottest nightclubs. Get the full experience of living abroad and meet everyone there is to meet.
