Life can be challenging, and it certainly does not get any easier during unprecedented times like this, but this is a reminder with every new day, there is a new beginning for hope. Nothing is permanent; you should be proud of yourself for overcoming such a difficult year filled with silent battles and roller coasters. A meaningful quote I resonate with is, “You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection” – Buddha. I hope during these months filled with holiday cheer, love, and unity, you take a step back and be still in the moment to appreciate the beautiful things life has to offer. Most importantly, remember to take care of yourself because self-love, kindness, and compassion are crucial things everyone needs. I know that self-love is hard to cultivate for many of us because it tends to feel like a luxury, but in reality, it isn’t. It is a necessity. Here are some ways you can cultivate self-love.

Treating Yourself with Kindness 

In a society filled with unrealistic high standards, remember that you are doing the best you can. Be proud of all your accomplishments, and feed your mind with positive affirmations. Watch how you talk to yourself. Start each day with a grateful heart. Remember to celebrate yourself by being kind to yourself. Take a deep breath and read or write these affirmations.

“I am more than enough”.

“I am beautiful inside and out”.

“Everything I need is within me”.

“I make a difference in the world”.

“I am in control of my life”.

“I matter”.

“I have great potential within me”.

“My life does not have to be perfect to be great”.

“It is not too late to start over”.

Being kind to your mind means learning how to forgive yourself. The past does not define you. Every day is a fresh start. Instead of allowing external things to dictate how we feel about ourselves, focus on positive affirmations, and encouragement.

Prioritize Yourself

Whether it’s mindful meditation, writing, eating favorite snacks, praying, or enjoying a favorite hobby, make sure you prioritize time for the things that make you feel the most peaceful and alive. It is time to give yourself the love, attention, compassion, and energy you so freely give to others. You are in charge of your own life, and don’t let anyone make you feel otherwise for doing what makes you happy. If that means taking time off on social media, friendships, or relationships, do it because you deserve to make yourself a priority.

Take It Day by Day

Self-love is not something that can be mastered in a day. It takes time. There is no one set of rules on how to successfully love yourself. Please don’t beat yourself up on the days you aren’t feeling your best; remind yourself of the extraordinary potential you have. It’s okay to set boundaries, especially to things that don’t bring you enlightenment and peace. To truly love yourself, you need to find yourself and take it day by day. When you look at yourself in the mirror, I hope you see what I see; a robust independent warrior that can overcome anything in life. You matter, and your story can inspire many. You have no idea how many silent lovers you have. You deserve all the precious things this life has to offer. The wonderful thing about self-love is that it is always available for ourselves. It is a journey that will lead you to what is meant to be for you. 

This is a reminder that you deserve to give yourself all the love, attention, and kindness you commonly give to others. It won’t be easy, but it will definitely be worth it. No matter how you feel, you are loved, valued, and seen. Treat yourself with kindness, love yourself.
