Best Looks of the Grammy Awards 2018

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CWU chapter.

This year’s annual Grammy Awards, it seemed that every celebrity and artist were wearing the same thing. A white rose. These artists were supporting the #MeToo campaign and the Time’s Up Movement by wearing white roses to show their solidarity towards a cause that is long overdue. Despite the overwhelming number of male nominees this year, it was empowering to see women and men stand together to support the injustice that women in this industry face when it comes to nominations. According to a recent study featured by The Rolling Stone, in the last six years, only 9.3 percent of the 899 people nominated for Grammys were women. This year, only two women, Julia Michaels and Lorde were nominated for the Album, Record and Song of the Year categories. Despite this underrepresentation, this movement by these artists stand against this injustice by sporting white roses to accessorize their couture looks. Take a look at some of our favorite looks from this year’s Grammy Red Carpet:

Zayn Malik

The ex-One Direction member sported an amazing pink suit with an embroidered white rose patch to support the women in the music industry. We’re also loving the fun socks!

Kesha

Kesha’s performance of her hit song “Praying” brought the crowd to tears as she told her story of sexual abuse and how she overcame it to become the strong woman and artist she is. Her masculine-inspired outfit with sparkly boots made just a big of statement as her performance!

Julia Michaels

Song of the Year nominee Julia Michaels chose to sport her white rose in more of a creative way that complemented her edgy tattoos – LOVE! She looked stunning in this pastel gown that showed off her tattoos and complimented her eyes and hair cut beautifully!

Ne-Yo

We’ve miss seeing Ne-Yo on our playlists, so we were overly excited to see him (and his smile) at this year’s awards! He decided a mustard yellow jacket went best with his white rose, and we couldn’t agree more!

SZA

Best New Artist nominee SZA showed off her fabulous figure with this stunning gown that matched perfectly with her white rose. Despite her five nominations, which was the most out of any woman nominee, SZA was beat out for every one. This travesty defines the issue of female neglect in the music industry, but we can’t wait to see how she bounces back to prove the Grammy board wrong!

These are just a few of the many amazing looks at this year’s Grammy Awards. What were your favorites of the night? Let us know below!
