Tyler Lomnitzer, Author in the Making

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CUA chapter.

Hometown: Trumbull, Connecticut

Major: English

Graduation Year: 2015

Tyler Lomnitzer has always had a love for writing and hopes to continue his passion after school. He’s ever so grateful for the opportunity he has had to perfect his writing at Catholic University and felt that it was only right to give back to the school that’s helped him so much. Check it out as we chitchat with Engelhard’s amazing RA, Tyler Lomnitzer.

HerCampus CUA:   Thanks for letting me interview you; to start off we’re going to talk about your campus activity. What groups or organizations are you involved in on campus?

Tyler:  I work as an Operations Assistant at the DuFour Center, I’m a RA Engelhard, a undergraduate tutor at Writing Center and a third degree member in Knights of Columbus. I also volunteered with campus ministry during a Pro Life Hospitality event they had.

HC: Cool! So what made you want to be an RA? And what is most fulfilling part about being an RA?

Tyler: I definitely wanted to be a leader on campus and I had a good experience with my RA sophomore year… I wanted to give back to the community that was so generous to me. It was also great to watch my residents mature and although it’s a hard job… I wanted to help others.

HC: Fantastic, can you describe the funniest or most memorable situation you’ve experienced while being an RA?

Tyler: This event that we held called “Girls and cupcakes” had a pretty good turn out. I invited my girl friends to be on a panel and they talked about how to act appropriate when dating and how to interact with girls… about 50 flather boys, freshman boys came out which was a good amount. It was a big event that people still talk about today.

HC: That’s so cute, what a great idea for an event. So you’re an English major? What made you want to study English? What do you plan on doing with English post-grad?

Tyler:  I always loved reading and writing… that is part of the reason I like working at the Writing Center. I also want to be published author one day… I’m in the process of applying for jobs now and hope to get in a position where I can publish books.

HC: When you’re not on campus, what do you like to do?

Tyler: I like to go to the Portrait Gallery; it’s a nice get away… Since most of my residents are grad-students I like to help them see as much of DC as they can. Oh and Nats’ games, I love to go to Nats’ Game.

HC: This is a little random, but tell me something interesting that no one knows about you?

Tyler: Well a duck bit me on my fingers when I was 6 at SeaWorld in Ohio… I was pointing out the ducks to my mom and the mother duck just came out of nowhere and bit me… I still have a pretty big fear of ducks today.

HC: That’s crazy, I’ve never heard of anything like that.  Lastly, I’ve got a paper coming up soon, would you mind looking over it?

Tyler: *Chuckles* Of course, I work in the Writing Center on Tuesday and Thursday from 10-1.
