Juniors Dakota Knutson and Claire McDermott are bringing SHELF to Catholic University…what is SHELF you ask? I guess you’ll have to read and find out…
HerCampus: What are both your majors?
Dakota & Claire: We are both marketing majors!

HC: What are you both involved with on campus?
D & C: Both of us are involved in similar business clubs like The Business Professional Society, the Woman’s Business Club, and the Marketing Leadership Committee.

HC: What is SHELF?
D & C: SHELF is a mobile app designed to help woman track and share the cosmetic products that they buy. Right now the app is used just for nail polish but soon enough it will be for all cosmetics. Users are able to see what others are using, product reviews, ratings, and chemical information.

HC: Why did you decide to get involved with them and how did you hear about them?
D & C: I (Dakota) heard about the company through my cousin Trish that works for them. We decided to get involved because we love the idea of the app and have noticed so far that it definitely makes life easier. There are so many cosmetic products in the market and we constantly face the problem of not knowing what to buy, SHELF solves that problem for us and can solve that problem for you too!

HC: Are they a new company?
D & C: SHELF is a start-up company that only just launched the app a few weeks ago but we already have so many people using the app.

HC: Do you currently use their app?
D & C: Yes, we both use the app and love it! It is so easy to use, feel free to follow us and see what nail polish we’ve been using lately!

HC: How does their app work and why should people download it?
D & C: When you download the app you are able to create your own profile and follow people. From there you take a picture of your manicure and upload it to your profile, then you can catalog it by brand and see what the health ratings are. Your feed shows you what your friends are wearing on their nails, so next time you go to the nail salon you already have a few ideas of what you want and which is best for your health. It provides a fun way to interact with your friends over cosmetics.

HC: How did you both become ambassadors of the company and getting it to come to CUA?
D & C: When we found out that SHELF was looking for campus ambassadors we immediately wanted to bring it to Catholic. We think its a great app that so many people here would be interested in. Working for a start-up company is really exciting, we’ve been able to see it grow so much and look forward to seeing it expand more in the future with a little help from CUA!

HC: Do you have a team behind you guys or need help if people are interested?
D & C: The SHELF CUA team right now is just me and Claire, we could definitely use more help if anyone is interested, it is such a great company to be involved in. There are so many determined woman working for SHELF and we are just so happy to be working with them.

HC: What are some of your goals with this company and who do you plan on making this a success?
D & C: Our goals for SHELF this semester as campus ambassadors are to share the app with the CUA community. We will be hosting some events throughout the semester so be sure to keep an eye out for us! Visit the website at www.shelfcosmetics.com for more information and download the app from the app store!
