From Catholic University to the White House

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CUA chapter.

It’s that time of year when one can look at Facebook and start see everyone in their class posting about their post-grad plans, whether its new jobs or grad school…it’s happening people. Graduation is most definitely upon us, so what better way to go forward into the light that is graduation, than to hear from one of CUA’s most recent grads, the one and only, Giovanna Coia. Giovanna or G as everyone calls her, graduated from The Catholic University of America last May and in about 6 weeks it will happen all over again for the class of 2017. Here is what she had to say about post-grad life:

Name: Giovanna Coia

Year of Graduation: 2016

Major: Political Science

Her Campus: What was your initial reaction after you graduated, what was that feeling like?

Giovanna: The day of graduation was exciting!!! CUA has a beautiful ceremony. Once the fun is over, it all felt bittersweet. The culmination of 4 great years was difficult but I was anxious to begin working!

HC: If you could give any advice to your younger college self what would you say?

G: Do not revolve your senior year around finding a job.

HC: What was the greatest thing CUA taught you that helped you or prepared you in real life?

G: The arts and sciences program puts a huge emphasis on writing and being a great writer makes it easier to succeed post grad.

HC: What’s the toughest part about the real world that you never thought of?

G: It’s a level of responsibility that college doesn’t prepare you for. Sick days don’t really exist and people rely on you — you can’t let them down.

HC: Where do you work?

G: The White House press department

Do you see G?! Hint: She is sitting right next to the women in the white blouse!

HC: What is it like?

G: It’s been great!

HC: Is there any other words of advice for those graduating in a little less then 2 months? Do not be scared to ask questions!

G: Taking a few minutes to clarify confusion is better then making a mistake. If you do make a mistake, learn from it.

G Made it on TV!

The beautiful Coia family on G’s grad day!
