Things To Do On Halloween When You’re Too Old To Go Trick-or-Treating

Fall has always been my favorite time of the year- the leaves changing colors, the cozy outfits, fuzzy socks and blankets, hot cocoa: the list goes on and on. Fall also brings on one of my favorite holidays, Halloween. Getting dressed up and going door to door collecting candy with my friends from ages 4-16 are some of my core memories. However, society frowns upon young adults going trick or treating, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still celebrate Halloween! Here are some things you can do:

  1. Horror Movie Marathon

Grab your friends, cozy blankets, fun snacks, and turn on some horror movies in the spirit of creepiness!

Some movie recommendations:

  • IT (R)
  • Hereditary (R)
  • The Conjuring (R)
  • Midsommar (R)
  • The Boy (PG-13)

  1. Throw a Halloween Party

Grab some friends and have a Halloween party where everyone dresses up. You can also make Halloween drinks and snacks, such as jello shots in syringes or pumpkin dirt pudding graveyard parfaits. Caramel apples are also delicious- basically anything that feels and tastes like fall (i.e. pumpkin spice, cinnamon, chai, etc) are great flavors to incorporate this Halloween.

For more recipes and ideas, tik tok and pinterest are great resources!

  1. Watch Halloween episodes of your favorite shows

For most TV shows, there is usually a Halloween episode. Here are some of my favorites.

  • Wanda-Vision: “All New Halloween Spooktacular”
  • Friends: “The One With The Halloween Party”
  • The Office: “Here Comes Treble” and “Halloween”
  • New Girl: “Keaton” and “Halloween”
  • How I Met Your Mother: “The Slutty Pumpkin Returns”
  • Modern Family: “Halloween”
  • Grey’s Anatomy: “Haunt You Every Day”
  1. Pranks!

It is TRICK or treat, after all. Prank your friends by making caramel “apples” with onions, or jump out from the bushes at people passing by! Halloween is a great time to play pranks on your friends, just remember to keep it safe, fun, and legal!

  1. Be creative

There are endless ways to be creative during halloween. Try your hand at SFX (special effect) makeup, or grab one of the Halloween makeup kits from your local Walmart or Target and see what you can come up with! You can also have a pumpkin carving contest, play jenga with candy bars or bake halloween cookies.
