As someone who is an avid tarot card user, I thought it would be a cute idea to connect this year’s most popular costumes that I’ve seen on social media to some of my favorite cards. I chose these cards based on the character/person that is displayed in each costume. Maybe you can even pull from a deck of cards and see what you get.
The Cure outfit Olivia Rodrigo
“The Cure” music video by Oliva Rodrigo came out May 21st this year. With over 50 million views, it was a big hit among her fans. Her iconic nurse costume with red yarn added beautiful symbolism to her video. I loved it so much and have seen a few girls already planning this as their costume!
Ten of Swords
The tarot card that reminds me of this costume is the Ten of Swords. The Ten of Swords card represents heartbreak/breakup, bitterness, collapse, breakdown, grief, vulnerability, and disappointment. I feel like this card perfectly sums up what the song and video are all about. Becoming “unraveled” thinking you are good enough and stable enough for someone, but you are truly not. Experiencing a devastating heartbreak related to mental health and codependency fits this card and song perfectly.
The Punisher from Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Spider-Man: Brand New Day came out this summer and was one of the most popular movies of the year. Featuring a relationship between Spider-Man and The Punisher, it showcased their quirky, meaningful, funny friendship. The show The Punisher also features the character Frank Castle/The Punisher. With many women loving Frank Castle, he has become a popular upcoming Halloween costume for this year.
Justice
The tarot card that reminds me of this costume is Justice. The Justice card represents responsibility, fairness for others, reflection, introspection, justice (of course), and karma. I think this card perfectly fits Frank Castle as played by Jon Bernthal. Frank is constantly seeking to stop people from doing wrong things, even if he is a little twisted about it. Frank will defend those with his own life and carry out what needs to be done.
Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader
The Dallas Cowboys cheerleader has been a popular costume for a few years now. With fierce competition of getting to be a Cowboys cheerleader with iconic uniforms many girls find it iconic.
The Chariot
To be a cheerleader for the Cowboys is a lot of work. It is the most difficult cheerleading team to be a participant on. So difficult that there is even a documentary about the process called “America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and Making the Team”. The tarot card that fits this theme is The Chariot. The Chariot stands for determination, willpower, ambition, success, and self-discipline. These are all traits someone trying out needs to be fierce enough to be on the team.
Victoria’s Secret Angel
With the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show happening in October, many girls dress up as a VS Angel. VS Angels wear big, custom-made wings and the newest lingerie, about to be released, strutting it down the runway. This fashion show has been iconic since 1995.
Queen of Cups
The tarot card that reminds me of this show and these angels is the Queen of Cups. The Queen of Cups represents compassion, kindness, self-love, fulfillment, and admiration. The VS Angels showcase all these traits, showing self-love and confidence on the runway, compassion and love for their fellow angels, and, of course, admiration from women looking at these gorgeous women.
High Lady of The Night Court (Feyre) from A Court of Thorns and Roses
Spoilers!
A Court of Thorns and Roses book series is one of the most popular romantsacy series of the year, with two new books coming out for the series after 2021. With much anticipation, the love for the characters is very prominent in the book lover community. The main character, Feyre, has iconic outfits in The Night Court where she is the High Lady (queen). With beautiful accents of dark blue, silver stars, and moons, the Night Court outfits are the most iconic in the book series.
The Star
The card I think fits Feyre as the High Lady of the Night Court is The Star. The Star represents hope, faith, renewal, healing from past wounds, inner strength, and faith. I think this perfectly fits Feyre’s story throughout the series. Feyre works through her past trauma from the terrors of Under the Mountain and the Spring Court. In the second book, Feyre starts her healing journey when she finally has her autonomy and power back. Of course, the Star card also fits in with the theme of The Night Court.
Chappell Roan
Chappell Roan has been an up-and-coming queer artist since 2024, with iconic outfits in her most iconic music videos, including “Good Luck, Babe!”, “The Subway”, “Pink Pony Club”, and “HOT TO GO”. I showcased one of my favorite looks by her, an almost vampiric look she wore while performing at a music festival. One of the most popular ones I see is her iconic Pink Pony Club outfit, a pink cowboy-glammed look.
Seven of Wands
The card that reminds me of Chappell is the Seven of Wands. The Seven of Wands represents standing up for yourself, resilience, overcoming challenges, and protectiveness. Chappell Roan defends herself publicly to paparazzi, sets clear boundaries with fans, and stays true to herself. While she has faced a lot of backlash for this, I think it is lovely seeing a sapphic woman defend herself against being stepped over. I think this card fits her and her songs perfectly.
I hope this has helped you find some Halloween costume inspo and have a better appreciation for how tarot cards can be used not only for Halloween but also to make connections in everyday life!
