Keeping house plants alive as a college student is hard. I personally struggle to water my plants, let alone fertilize them and make sure they’re getting enough lights. But, if you’re anything like me, you love the raw, natural vibes having plants in your space evokes. For the longest time, I wasted time, energy, and money on plants that I struggled to keep alive- but now I am proud to say that I am no longer an inadequate plant parent. Thanks to Planta, a free app on the App Store, I can successfully cultivate both my ‘plant mom’ aesthetic and all my plants at the same time.

Easy set-up.

Until recently, I was a total plant newb. The terms “propagation” and “partial sun” meant nothing to me. However, if you’re still developing your green thumb, Planta makes it easy for you to not only add your plants to their tracking system but also ensure that the space you’re placing your plants in will provide adequate light and heat. I first added my Golden Pothos and it was so easy! All I had to do was select the amount of light my plant would be getting and Planta put my pothos on a watering schedule which prompts me with notifications. It’s also very easy to add multiple plants, even if you don’t know which kind of plant they are; simply just search through pictures in the “Find Plant” section of the app.

Keep organized.

Outside of its killer aesthetic, Planta also comes in handy for those who love to plan out their every move for the next week. On the home screen of the app, Planta provides a calendar of future dates you can scroll through so you can schedule out when your plant needs water or fertilizer so you never miss a day! Best of all, if you click on these dated prompts, Planta will also give you tips about how to water the plants, including signs that you should wait a bit longer for watering.

Another great feature of Planta is how it allows you to track and save the climates for each of your plants. For me, I have plants throughout my house so it can be hard to keep track of variations of light when making a decision about which plant to buy. Luckily, plants will save this data and provide recommendations for plants that would do well in each environment. For example, most bedrooms are suitable for orchids requiring partial sun and infrequent watering.

With so many great features, Planta makes it virtually impossible to kill your plants, even for the most notoriously neglectful plant parents. Download the app from the App Store here.
