A random list of some monster romance books I love.Â
I’m going to start with a caveat that these books are definitely not for everyone. These are books I had fun reading, and if you like other things in the romance genre you might like these too!Â
Wolfsong by TJ KluneÂ
Okay, so I’m not sure what constitutes a “monster” romance, but in this case I’m grouping together werewolves too. This book will forever have my heart. The first in a four book series, It’s a beautiful story about love, found family, and self discovery. Did I mention it’s about queer werewolves? What’s better than that! I’m obsessed with TJ Klune’s writing style. This is one of my favorite books of all time. Truly magical.Â
Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby DixonÂ
For this next book I’m taking us in a very different direction. They’re big, they’re blue, and they have tails. If that’s not engaging entertainment I don’t know what is. I’m reading the second book in this series now (im pretty there’s like 20 of them total) and I’ve been reminded how fun they are. Get lost on an alien planet and enjoy a truly unique love story.Â
A Darkness So Sweet by Emma HammÂ
The main character is betrayed and sacrificed and her only option left is to marry an orc. YAS — I love the “sacrificed to the enemy” trope, and this book does it so well. This book has a great slow burn, and super fun world building. As far as monster romances go I think orcs make for a fun and different love interest. This was a fun read! Â
Shiver by Maggie StiefvaterÂ
Something more akin to Wolfsong, this book is definitely more tame, but no less fun. This one is geared more towards a young adult audience, but in no way does it seem too juvenile. I love Maggie Stiefvater’s books, and this is a fun take on a werewolf romance. It’s a very sweet read with lots of heart warming moments. It’s a dual perspective, which I love, and both main characters are so sweet and a joy to read!
