Interview with Cassey Ho, founder of Blogilates

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CU Boulder chapter.

Working out with Cassey Ho’s Blogilates is no joke. You will sweat, your muscles will burn, and you might want to cry…probably from laughter. Imagine a super hot, ripped ideal body with a totally nerdy personality and there you have Cassey Ho. She took a few minutes to chat with HerCampus about her fitness secrets and getting in shape in time for spring break!

HC: Tell us about yourself! How did you get so involved in Pilates and, by extension, Blogilates?

Cassey: A few years ago, I was a group fitness instructor who posted a video on YouTube. Luckily some people liked watching the workout and asked for more. That’s how I got into being a true “YouTuber”! I feel so fortunate that POPsters from all over the world do the workouts and read the blog for inspiration – I can feel our Blogilates community getting stronger every day!

HC: Spring break is near! What are the specific exercises you recommend for getting an all-over tone in a short amount of time, like 3 weeks?

Cassey: My Bikini Bootcamp is perfect for Spring Break prep! It’s a quick 12 minute video that will kick your booty into shape!

HC: How much cardio do you think is necessary for an all-over tone?

Cassey: Try to do at least 30 minutes of cardio 3 times a week. If you can do more HIIT(High Intensity Interval Training) styel routines, you can even burn more calories in less time than steady state cardio [like] treadmills, ellipticals.

HC: You have a rocking body! How much time do you spend working out every day?

Cassey: I work out 5 to 6 times a week and always do at least 30 minutes of cardio each time after a 45 minute to 1 hour weight lifting or bodyweight routine. If I do HIIT, I usually just do 1 hour of hard core work.

HC: Getting in shape is hard if you’re drinking, but college students drink practically every weekend. Can you get in shape while boozing over the weekend? If you’re going to be drinking, what would be drinks you recommend/recommend avoiding?

Cassey: Boozing is empty calories! But it is definitely part of the college experience too ;-) You’re making it harder for yourself when you are drinking and trying to lose weight. But if you must, margaritas, appletinis, cosmopolitans, and mojitos are ok! Stay away from pre-made mixes and extra sugar!

HC: Any other tips or tricks to get rid of stubborn weight, especially around the midsection? Any general health rules to always follow?

Cassey: Eat more veggies and drink more water. Period!

I'm a 21 year old English and Psychology major. I spent last summer interning at Cosmopolitan Magazine and I'm currently trying to figure out the direction I want to take after graduation. I love writing and I love marketing, so probably a fusion of the two. Sushi, hard cider, and bad horror movies are my weaknesses. I'm also a trivia badass.
