The Importance of Making Time for Yourself

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CU Boulder chapter.

With fall and winter break quickly approaching, many CU collegiettes are right in the middle of midterms, papers, and projects. In addition, many of us have been working so hard that we are starting to burn out and therefore aren’t at our best for test season. In order to power through the rest of the semester it is important that we all set aside some time each week to de-stress. Here are a few things you can do to take your mind off of your ever-growing to-do list:

  1. Go see a movie- My roommate and I have started a new tradition where we pick a night that we don’t have a lot to do and go see a movie. Just taking two hours off to focus on a simple plotline and the hot leading man will put you at ease for the rest of the week.
  2. Get frozen yogurt, coffee, cupcakes, anything- I’m not proposing you turn into a glutton, however it can be nice to take time out for a little treat without having to chug your coffee just for the caffeine content. Instead meet up with a friend and talk about something other than school for a while.
  3. Try a new workout class- Sometimes exercise feels like just another thing we have to schedule into our lives, but if you take an hour to try out a new class you will be so focused on perfecting your moves that you wont have time to think about that annoying group project.
  4. Take a walk- When you are short on time and just need to clear your head a quick walk can do the trick. Be sure to bundle up for the winter weather and pick a path that will lead you around to your favorite places in Boulder.
  5. Read a magazine- This is by far one of the easiest ways to take a break from studying and it doesn’t even require leaving the library. You will have the opportunity to catch up on frivolous celebrity gossip and all of the latest beauty trends and for once feel like you’re reading something purely for fun.
