As autumn slowly creeps closer, Boulder is finally starting to feel a slight chill in the air. Classrooms are already starting to smell better without the constant sweaty students coming and going. But that’s not the best part. Fall fashion is finally back. Now with the return of fall clothing trends, there are a few in particular that I can’t wait to see on campus.Â
Flannels!
Yes, I know flannels for fall…how innovative. But honestly, I think that there is a reason why they are so popular. The cozy oversized button-down and a cute pattern. What could be better? Whether you wear them with jeans or just around the waist as an accessory, a flannel will immediately give your outfit a cozy fall vibe.Â
Matching sets!
I love a matching sweat set as much as the next college student, but I need to see people branching out and wearing sets that actually look like outfits. A long-sleeve and short combo would be perfect for a 70 degree fall day before the temperature drops completely. Also, a nice set is something that you can throw on when you are running late or feeling lazy, and you will automatically look put together. And trust me, a good sweat set will still be a staple in my wardrobe, but I think it would be fun to branch out to classier looks.
Suede!
Suede of any kind will automatically bring a softness and warmth to an outfit. A classic suede piece will always be a fall and winter staple. Suede is a timeless material, and boots, a jacket, or a bag are timeless pieces that will never go out of style. One thing that sucks about cycling trends is you buy a bunch of trendy items and get to wear them for one season, then never again. Not suede; suede will never not be in, and you should always keep a piece in your closet.Â
Layered Lace!
Lace is one of my favorite materials, and I genuinely believe that it matches with everything. Lace adds so much depth and dimension to an outfit, no matter how basic the base is. People are getting so creative with the fabric in ways that I never would have imagined. Who knew that wearing a lace maxi dress over a pair of wide-leg jeans would look so chic? Even layering it under a white tee or a cozy sweater will elevate any look and add a modern edge.Â
Knitwear!
This list is getting long, so I promise this is the last one! A good knit sweater or cardigan is the definition of fall in my eyes. A cold morning sitting outside with a coffee and your wool sleeves pulled to your fingertips is an unmatched feeling. Classic materials used in knitwear, like wool or cotton blends, are very breathable and provide a lot of movement, making the transition from cold mornings to warm afternoons seamless and comfortable.Â
As Boulder gets colder, bring back the fall fashion! Whether it’s flannels, suede, sets, or knitwear, I’m just so ready to not die from heat exhaustion on my way to class.
