Black-Owned Businesses To Support In Boulder

There is so much to be done in the fight for racial equality in America. Like many issues facing our world, sometimes small efforts can have the biggest impacts. One of the best things you can do is to start small by supporting Black-owned businesses in your community or town. There are so many to choose from and all deserve recognition and attention. I’ve rounded up a list of four of the amazing Black-owned businesses in Boulder to check out and support!

MATEO

Mateo has been a staple in the Boulder restaurant scene since 2001. Owner and head chef Matthew Jenson has created a decadent menu of a wide variety of French fare. The enticing options include Lamb Bolognese, Steak Frites, Mussels, and more. It is a perfect choice for date night, celebratory meal, or just to treat yourself!

BROOKLYN BARBER ACADEMY

Brooklyn native Ja’Mal Gilmore opened the Brooklyn Barber Academy as a barbershop and youth community mentorship space. It is the perfect place for a fresh cut, even being named the #1 barbershop in Boulder in 2021. The Academy also offers mentoring for aspiring hairstylists. Be sure to check them out in their new location on Broadway.

BIG DADDY’S TEXAS BBQ

Big Daddy’s Texas BBQ is the food truck of the century. Owner, Megill Stewart has been making his infamous BBQ for over 20 years. His food truck offers patrons delicious BBQ, southern, Cajun, vegetarian, and vegan options. He also caters, so look no further for your next party or event!
