6 Versatile Fall Jacket Trends for 2020

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CU Boulder chapter.

Even though 2020 has been unexpected in every way imaginable, fashion trends live on, even if you are only wearing your trendiest pieces to the grocery store. As the temperature starts to cool, it’s finally time to pull out all your jackets and maybe buy a new one… or five. Whether you want an everyday go-to jacket for every occasion or a statement piece for a night out on the town (or, more appropriately, takeout with friends), there is a fall jacket trend for everyone’s fashion needs. I have rounded up six of the most versatile and cozy jacket trends to add to your wardrobe.

The Oversized Blazer

The bigger, the better, especially when it comes to jackets. Blazers are officially not just for a boring office job anymore. A blazer should be in everyone’s closet, especially with all the new colors and patterns we are seeing this season. Whether you want to stay true to the basics or mix it up with a fun print or color, everyone needs a blazer this season.

The Classic Puffer

A classic puffer will always be my go-to jacket when it starts to get chilly in Boulder. These days, you can find a puffer jacket in every color, length, pattern, price range, and texture known to man. Seriously, there is a puffer for everyone, and if you do not have one, now is the perfect time to add one to your wardrobe.

Leather Jackets

Leather is all the rage this season, ranging from tops to pants, to jackets and everything in between. Personally, I love the leather jacket trend this season, particularly those that are oversized. I have been on the hunt for the perfect vintage leather jacket. From basic leather moto jackets to a statement leather-look, you are definitely going to want to get your hands on one of these.

Corduroy Jackets

When I think of fall, I immediately think of corduroy. Corduroy will always be popular, but this season designers are turning it up a notch. Look forward to seeing colorful corduroy jackets in a variety of lengths and styles. Corduroy never goes out of style and a corduroy jacket will become a staple in your wardrobe for years to come.

PLAID!

In some way or another, plaid is always in style despite being a heritage pattern. This season, we are seeing plaid elevated. Say “good-bye” to the boring, grandma-like plaid that we have all grown to hate, and “hello” to plaid reimagined for 2020 fashion.

The Ode to the Trench Coat

You either hate them or you love them. Trench coats have been in-and-out of fashion for decades. For many, when they hear “trench coat”, they immediately think of how they are portrayed in films: an incredibly ill-fitting coat paired with an equally horrible outfit in order to look mysterious and superior to others. Well, in 2020, they are anything BUT that! Trench coats are cool again and this time, they’re stylish!

As hard as it is to believe, fall is here to stay! Make sure you are ready to go with one of these jacket trends that will match everyone’s fashion sense.
