Sometimes we never think past the next week or month, even past tomorrow. I decided to take this time to map out where I see myself in 10 years. What events I picture to take place throughout these next 10 years. With that being said, life is never something we can plan out. Things, plans, and people are constantly changing, but here are some events that could occur within the next 10 years that I’d be happy living with.

Some days in college literally feels like I won’t make it to the next day or week without dying from stress. Anyone in college understands that stress does not just affect your mind but affects every aspect of your body as well. So, I’m hoping not only to make it to next week in college but to eventually graduate with my bachelor’s degree in social work. If everything goes as planned, this should happen within the next 3 years. Now that I think about it, that’s probably the very first exciting event that’ll occur in my 10-year plan.

So, I guess if I can make it past these first four years of college, why not add more stress and go get my master’s degree right? Once I get a taste of the work life, I will not be able to casually hop back into the student life. That means I have to head right back to school after graduating. I’ll give a little background knowledge on why I need my masters in the first place. When you decide to major in social work, you are deciding to go to school to get your masters if you want to actually do anything within the social work field. Very little social work jobs exist that don’t need a master’s degree. So, on that note, I’ll be in school for the next 5 years.

As I started to picture where I would end up after these 5 years of college are over, I realized I most likely will not have the money to move to where I want to. For the sake of this 10-year plan, let’s pretend I somehow do have the money for this. Picture this, a beautiful house on Coastline Drive in Malibu, California. If you can’t picture it, Google it. As I typed this out I recognize how unrealistic this sounds right out of college, but hey I reach for the stars. I’ve only been to California once in my entire life and it wasn’t even in Malibu but I know that’s where I could spend a few years. I want to learn how to surf and spend every weekend for as long as I can on the beach.

Although you can’t really plan this out, I do want to be married within the next 10 years. I’ve been thinking about my wedding day since I was a little kid, I actually picture it as the best day of my life. I can’t wait but I also can because I want to be out of school before starting my own family. I want two kids, one girl and one boy. I want two dogs. One German Shepard and one Newfoundland.

I feel that throughout my blog posts, you are starting to understand my life and my interests. Now you know my plans for the next 10 years as well. Now you all can hold me accountable to these plans besides the last one considering I don’t have complete control over that. Maybe this will spark up the interest to consider where you see yourself in 10 years and what events you think may take place within that time frame.

Well hello there, my name is Kaitlyn. I am a sophomore at Colorado State University, studying social work. I probably spend a good 70% of my life at Starbucks or other local coffee shops. I also probably spend way too much time posting on Instagram. If you'd like to see my work there so far, follow me @kaitlynkusmik
