Finding the Perfect Pair of Jeans

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cornell chapter.

We all know finding that perfect pair of jeans is a glorious occasion, but the process of shopping for those jeans can be torturous. Nothing ever seems to fit perfectly and certainly not for a low price tag.

In order to help you out on your next shopping trip, I’ve compiled a list of jeans and given them a rating out of five stars based on fit, comfort, style and value. I included the size I tried on in order to give an idea of whether these pants are true to size and the size differences between brands. Read on to find your perfect pair of jeans!

1. Levi’s 535 Super Skinny Jean – $49.50, size 24×30

These jeans were pretty comfortable but slightly tight through the leg. They were definitely too long however, and they bunched up significantly at the bottom. They were only slightly loose in the waist. I tried on a pair of medium wash and a pair in black in the same size, and the black pair was definitely bigger, so the sizes for different colors aren’t necessarily consistent.

Fit: 3.5/5

Style: 3/5

Value: 4/5

Overall score: 3.6/5

2. PacSun Ankle Jeggings – $54.95, size 24

PacSun’s regular skinny jeans weren’t small enough for me, so I opted to try on their jeggings. They were really soft and looked pretty cool, but they were too big on me. Because of how stretchy they were, after a day of walking around in them they would’ve gotten quite baggy. For the price, they didn’t seem to be a great quality.

Value: 2/5

Overall score: 3/5

3. Sneak Peek Destroyed Skinny Jeans (from Charlotte Russe) – $34.99, size 1

These were my favorite pair of jeans I tried on. Although I would normally wear a size 0, the size 1 fit really well and was only slightly large in the waist. They’re a really unique and cool style, especially the raw hem at the bottom. The length was much better on these jeans and for a person slightly taller than me would be perfect. They’re a great value and very comfortable.

Overall score: 4.75/5

4. Hollister Jean Leggings – $49.95, size 0

I tried these on in both low rise and high rise, and they fit very differently. The low rise were too large through the leg and waist, while the high rise were a better fit in the leg and waist but were way too long. They were fairly comfortable and pretty stretchy.

Fit: 3.5/5

Comfort: 3.5/5

Style: 4/5

Value: 3/5

Overall score: 3.5/5

5. Jessica Simpson Kiss Me Super Skinny Jeans – $59.50, size 25

The smallest size these came in was a 25, which is a size larger than I regularly wear, but they fit pretty well. The waist was a little big in the back, but other than that, they were perfect. One disappointment was the lack of color and style varieties.

Fit: 4.5/5

Comfort: 4.5/5

Style: 3/5

Value: 3.5/5

Overall score: 3.9/5

6. Noisy May Watermelon Embroidered Mom Jean – $78.00, size 24P

These pants are super cute and perfect for the transition from winter to spring. They’re a great length and fit once you get them on, however, because they aren’t stretchy, the small waist makes the pants hard to get over the hips. You may want to try sizing up with these pants, depending on how willing you are to squeeze into them.

Fit: 4/5

Comfort: 4/5

Style: 5/5

Value: 3/5

Overall score: 4/5

My favorite jeans were the Sneak Peek jeans, however, if you’re willing to spend a little more, I’d recommend the Jessica Simpson pair. For a unique pair of jeans, you might want to splurge a little on the Noisy May Watermelon jeans.

Hopefully this makes shopping for your next pair of jeans slightly less painful. Good luck and happy shopping!
