Thoughts on the Superbowl Halftime Show

Last weekend, the NFL’s climactic event took place at SoFi Stadium in California, the home field of the Los Angeles Rams, who narrowly beat the Cincinnati Bengals in an exciting game of football. However, the Super Bowl would not be complete without the “biggest concert of the year:” the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show. This year, artists Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, and Mary J.  Blige joined forces with special guests 50 Cent and Anderson .Paak to put on the show of a lifetime. Here are our thoughts:

The Super Bowl is my favorite sporting event of the year. As an avid New England Patriots fan, however, I wasn’t too excited about the actual game. But, I was excited to see some of the greatest artists of all time take the stage for the Pepsi Halftime Show. I was up and dancing within seconds, taking in the remarkable stage that was built on the field. The white houses painted a picturesque scene behind the colorful outfits of the performers and dancers, although I felt bad for the audience members sitting on the wrong side of the stadium, looking at the back of the temporary buildings. The chemistry between Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg was immaculate, 50 Cent’s surprise entrance from the ceiling (mimicking the original music video of “In da Club”) was insane, Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” hyped the whole crowd up, Kendrick Lamar crushed it with intricate choreography, Dr. Dre’s tribute to Tupac was moving, and Mary J. slayed the whole stadium away. My only complaint was that the show was way too short, and I wish more of the rappers’ staples could have been featured, like “Drop It Like It’s Hot” or “The Real Slim Shady.” Overall, it was one of the best halftime shows I’ve seen in my lifetime (although nothing will ever beat Bruno Mars or Katy Perry). I am looking forward to next year’s performance!
