The Single Girl’s Guide to Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Conn Coll chapter.

Valentine’s Day: To hate or not to hate? For all you single ladies, we know that February 14th is one of the most dreaded days of the year. Valentine’s Day is no longer spent dropping cutout hearts into decorated cereal boxes, or holding hands with your sixth grade “boyfriend” as you wait for the bus. Love is a bit more complicated now and finding a Valentine is becoming harder due to the increasing vagueness of the college hook-up scene. Don’t fret! We have provided you with six ways to enjoy Valentine’s Day (or Galentine’s Day) this year:

1. Go out to dinner with your single friends. But avoid any expensive restaurants and their ridiculous prix-fixe menus, special for Valentine’s Day. Great food and friendships are all you need in life, right?

2. Have a movie marathon starring your ultimate celeb crush. Why settle for a lame college boy when you could date DiCaprio or Gosling vicariously through a movie?

3. Have a spa party. You may not be in control of your love life, but you can certainly be in control of your nails! Channel all those single-girl frustrations into a manicure with the company of your gals and sing-along pop music.

4. As the stars of Parks and Recreation would say, TREAT YO’ SELF: take a trip to the spa or go shopping! This might be the single most important day of the year, (besides your birthday) to treat yo’ self.

5. Host a Valentine’s Day potluck with an array of chocolates and wine. It’s simple: Everyone brings chocolates, and you supply the wine.

6. Celebrate the fact that you’re single and go dancing at a nearby bar or nightclub! Nothing says “I don’t care” like dancing the night away!

Happy Galentine’s Day from Her Campus!

P.S. We think these Galentine’s Day cards are a perfect to send to your best friends!!

I am a sophomore at Conn Coll, and am from Maine (I've lived there my whole life). I love to dance, sing, draw/paint, and just have fun! I have an obsession with grapefruit and bacon egg and cheeses. I also love lipstick and nail polish (and am currently trying to add on to my array of colors). Basically, I am just a 19-year-old girl who is trying to make the most of her four years at Conn by indulging in what makes her happy.
