Raise your hand if you heard a Christmas song playing almost everywhere you went this Thanksgiving break- yep, that’s what I thought. Before the turkey was even put into the oven this season, Christmas was rolling around the corner. Now that the dishes are clean and you’re back on campus, the season really is here. Every year since I can remember I have heard the same Christmas songs played on the radio and in stores. Here’s a list of must-have holiday tunes!
Christmas Lights– Coldplay
This song came out last year and I listen to it all year round. Perfect for wherever you are this holiday season!
All I Want For Christmas Is You– Mariah Carey
A 90s classic. If you are ambitious, Mariah Carey has released an “Extra Festive” version of this song on iTunes. If you’re looking for less festivity and want something more intense, check out the My Chemical Romance version of the same song. It’s definitely got a different twist.
Baby Please Come Home– Death Cab For Cutie
A gut-wrenching favorite of mine.
Holiday– Vampire Weekend
If you’re like me, this song reminds you of a car commercial that was way overplayed last season, but it’s a quick and happy song to get you in the holiday spirit!
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays– N*Sync
Although I was (am) a die-hard Backstreet Boys fan, this N*Sync song is definitely one of my favorite modern holiday songs.
Merry Christmas Baby–Hanson
If you need a 90s boy-band-alternative to N*Sync, check out this Hanson tune. Caution: may cause uncontrollable urge to dance and snap.
Sleigh Ride– Spice Girls
While you’e on the 90s ride, jump in the sleigh with the Spice Girls! This song is perfect to listen to while you take a break from studying or are decorating your dorm room with lights!
iTunes is selling contemporary holiday albums for $7.99 this season- a bargain worth celebrating if you ask me! Don’t miss Michael Buble’s new album Christmas and the Glee Christmas Volume 2. Both CDs are filled with classic holiday favorites with personal twists that are sure to warm your winter days.
