A Podcast a Day Keeps the Boredom Away

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Conn Coll chapter.

Whether you have an upcoming road trip, or need some stimulation to get you through your daily cardio, podcasts are the perfect solution to your boredom. Podcasts (which you can download for free from the podcast app on your iPhone) are an easy way to learn a lot, without the feeling of being trapped in a classroom. Other times, podcasts are purely fun! Here are some of our suggestions.

The Mortified Podcast

If you are feeling nostalgic, but also ready to be humored, “Mortified: Share the Shame” is the podcast for you. Each episode features the reading aloud of childhood creations. These mostly include childhood/teenage diaries, but also letters, lyrics, and the like. For anyone who has ever kept a diary, these stories can be embarrassingly relatable; for those who have not, these stories are hilarious nonetheless.

Death, Sex & Money

In this podcast, host Anna Sale digs below the surface of intriguing topics related to death, sex, money, or all of the above. Sale interviews a wide range of individuals, sometimes even celebrities. Stories are often emotional and relatable. For the stories that are not so relatable, they are likely discussing extreme life situations, and therefore extremely interesting!

The Moth Podcast

The stories of the Moth are told at live performances, without notes, to standing-room only audiences. The Moth Podcast brings this experience right to your headphones, with the tapings of these stories from all around the world. Some stories are funny, others are emotional, but all are worth the listen. If you become a dedicated Moth fan, you could even attend one of the live performances!

99% Invisible

In this podcast, host Roman Mars explores the ways in which design and architecture influence the world we live in, particularly in the ways we glance over them. This eye-opening podcast will make you look at the world through a new lens.

Serial

Arguably the best-known podcast in history (and for good reason) is Serial. This podcast is so popular, not to mention addictive, that there have been other podcasts made to discuss each episode! Serial is most known for its first season, in which host Sarah Koenig investigates the murder case involving Adnan Syed and Hae Min Lee, which she believes to have the potential for reasonable doubt. The second season breaks down the investigation of Bowe Bergdahl, a U.S. Army Soldier who was held captive by the Taliban for five years after walking off by choice. The best (and worst) part of this podcast is that Koenig shares her findings of the case week by week, without knowledge of the conclusion until shortly before she airs her last episode.

Podcasts about TV Shows

Whether it is a popular Netflix binge, or a cable TV hit, there is probably a podcast that breaks down each episode of your favorite show! Search your podcast app for these gems, because they often interview your favorite actors, writers, directors, and producers.
